Nurse Kari
Happy New Year and welcome to 2026!!
FLU SEASON IS RAMPANT
Being the middle of Flu and Norovirus season, I would like to reiterate guidelines for sending children to school when not feeling well:
If your child has a fever today, they should not be at school tomorrow. They need to be fever free for at least 24 hours without any Tylenol or Motrin.
If you have to give them Tylenol or Motrin in the morning before school "to get them through the day" then they should NOT go to school.
If your child has vomiting and/or diarrhea today, they should not be at school tomorrow. Once again, 24 hours free from vomiting and/or diarrhea.
My goal is to keep our children healthy and safe while at school.
My contact information:
Office phone: (910) 350-2031 ext: 70019
email: kari.jacaruso@nhcs.net
When should I keep my child home from school:
1.Fever greater than 100.4 in past 24 hours. Can return to school when temperature is less than 100.4 without fever reducing medication for 24 hours.
2. Vomiting 2 or more times in 24 hours
3. Three or more diarrhea stools in 24 hours
4. Coughing won't stop, unable to concentrate or disrupting others from learning
5. Rash associated with fever or is open or oozing
6. Contagious disease diagnosed by a physician
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns-
Please let me know if your child has any health conditions or medications that I need to be aware of.
I am here to keep all our students healthy
Reminder: ALL medications to be given at school require a physician's authorization form prior to medication being given at school. Also, if your child has a food allergy, a physician diet order is required for nurse and cafeteria manager. All these forms are available in my office or I can email them to you.
Do NOT send any medication to school with your child. This is a danger to your child and the other children at school. Cough drops are considered a medication. All medications require physician's authorization at school, even if it is short term.
