Students must be between the ages of 14.5 and 18 on the day of registration. Students that are 18 or have graduated are unable to register for class.

ONLY REGISTER ONE TIME!!! DUPLICATE REGISTRATIONS WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE CLASS!!!

You will be contacted with instructions to pay within 48 hours if you register successfully

Spring registration will be February 11th. First day of class will be February 18th.

There will be 1 morning class 6am to 8am and 1 afternoon class 3:45 to 5:45. Make sure you can attend the class times posted before registering. Classes meet monday-thursday.

Summer registration will be May 6th. First day of class in june 15th and July 6th

There will be 1 morning class 8am to 11am and 1 afternoon class 12pm to 3pm in June.

There will be 1 morning class 8am to 11am and 1 afternoon class 12pm to 3pm in July.

Make sure you can attend the class times posted before registering.

Please only register for one spot! Students who register multiple times or for multiple classes will be removed from the class!

Spring 2025 Classes

Spring Afternoon Class

Class starts February 17th; a complete calendar of dates will be posted to all students who register & posted on the Google Classroom. Class starts at 3:45pm and ends at 5:45pm. Students must be present for all class days/times.

Spring Morning Class

Meets every morning monday thru friday for 3 weeks.

Class starts at 6:00am and ends at 8:00am

What do I need to register?

Student birth date and name (full legal name)
Student I.D. number that the county uses should be at hand, homeschool/private school students can just put 111111.
Student grade
Parent/Guardian Name
Physical address (should include City and Zip)
Phone number for guardian and guardian email.
Student email must be their NHCS email, the only exception should be private/homeschool students.
Be able to answer these questions:
1. Is the student served by an IEP or 504?
2. Does this student have any medical/ physical/ cognitive conditions? (If yes, please describe the condition below. (ex: brain injury, visual deficits not corrected by glasses, muscle spasm/tremor, shortened or loss of extremity, etc.))

What do I need to do after registering?

Students need to present their birth certificate to the instructor within the first few days of class
Students must be at least 14.5 years old or older on 19-Jun-2023/10-Jul-2023(the first day of classes, you must have been born on, or prior to, 19-DEC-2008[for the June classes] and 10-Jan-2009).
Students must attend all the days of class.
Students must complete the 30 hours of class, complete all assignments, and participate in all of the discussions/activities. If a student isn't participating then they will fail. If work is not completed when assigned, there is not a grace period to complete the work.
Any student dismissed from a class for not following basic rules or being disruptive will count as a failure and will not be allowed to continue.
After the student has been signed up they will have a fee ($65) that must be paid promptly, due by the close of business two weeks after registration. Students will be removed if not paid at that time.

Driver Eligibility Certificate Information

A parent/guardian must come to NHHS in person to complete the Driver Eligibility Certificate (DEC) between 9-2 on school days. The students grades/suspension record must be checked by staff before the form can be completed. Forms will be available in 2-3 school days for pickup by student or parent after completion.

Don't forget that NC has a law stating that your student must be passing 70% of their classes in order to be eligible for a NC Driver's License. The DEC is only valid for 30 days from the date when you signed for it at pickup.

Parents,

Please visit NCDMV and familiarize yourself with what you need to satisfy all of their requirements to get your child driving and to continue driving. Academic eligibility continues until the child graduates from High School or has obtained a GED. If you dropout or transfer to some other educational institute then the ability to prove your eligibilty will shift with you.

When is the next class?

To be fair we want to complete all fall students before starting a new class. Exact Registration normally are posted within the month of registration beginning.

If you have completed the classroom portion but not driving

Driving has resumed. Parents must sign an attestation form that is attached and wear a mask during the entire driving time.

If you are in need of a signed Driver Eligibility Certificate (DEC), please follow the directions below.

Option 1. The office is now open for paperwork. Please wear a mask and have your report card ready to show the front office staff. You will fill out a form. I check grades and eligibility every other day and your form will be ready in 1-2 business days. Your child can pickup the form but parents must fill it out.

Who Can Take Drivers Education

Students must attend the required 30 hours of class to complete Drivers Education. Please make sure your child has on-time transportation for each day of class.

All New Hanover County Students (public, private, charter, or home school) who will be 14 1/2 by the first day of class are eligible to take Driver Education with New Hanover County Schools.

It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to verify their student will be the required age prior to paying for registration as payments are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Students are only allowed to register and attend one class. Students that register and fail to pay or are removed from class are not allowed to re-enroll.
