Meet your band director, Jessica Meade. A graduate of the University of North Carolina Wilmington with a degree in Music Education, Mrs. Meade has dedicated her career to creating a positive, challenging, and inclusive environment where students can grow as musicians, leaders, and individuals. Now in her twelfth year of teaching, she works with beginning, intermediate, and advanced band students while leading a program that includes concert bands, jazz band, honor bands, festivals, and many performance opportunities throughout the year. Under her direction, Murray bands have consistently earned Superior ratings at Music Performance Adjudication and festival events while continuing to expand opportunities for students through chamber ensembles, community performances, and leadership experiences.
Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Meade choreographs the annual spring musical at Murray and works with colorguard students at Ashley High School and other programs across North Carolina. She believes some of life's most important lessons are learned through the Performing Arts; including hard work, teamwork, perseverance, and confidence, and she feels fortunate to share those experiences with her students every day. When she's not teaching, you can find her running, planning her next travel adventure, enjoying a good cup of coffee, or spending time with her husband, Sean, and their sweet cat, Nessa.

Mrs. Meade's Teaching Philosophy:
I believe music education is about so much more than learning notes and rhythms. While I want my students to develop strong musical skills and take pride in their performances, my greatest goal is to create a classroom where every student feels welcome, valued, and capable of success.
Band is a place where students learn to work together, overcome challenges, build confidence, and discover what they are capable of accomplishing. Some students will go on to become lifelong musicians, while others may never pick up an instrument after middle school. Either path is okay, but my hope is that every student leaves my classroom with meaningful experience, lasting memories, and the confidence to take on new challenges both in music and in life. If I'm lucky, they'll leave with a lifelong appreciation for music as well!
