Welcome! My name is Amanda Edwards. I will be starting my fourteenth year of teaching (all in North Carolina!) this fall and starting my ninth year in New Hanover County.
Background:
Grew up in a small town (ever heard of Beulaville?)
Went to ECU (Go Pirates!)
Lived in Raleigh for many many years. I consider it home and try to visit often :)
Worked at Target as a manager before becoming a teacher.
Teaching background:
My degree is in Dance Education. I am certified K-12 dance as well as K-6 Elementary.
Spent 5 years teaching in Clayton, NC. In those five years, I taught second and fifth grade.
In New Hanover County, I've taught fifth grade and third grade.
Very happy to be at PORTERS NECK, teaching FOURTH grade for the fifth year in a row!
Teaching all subjects this year but I am happiest in a math or science classroom! :)
A little more about me:
As I said above, I went to ECU. I bleed purple! I love college football (Pirates of course!)
I love the beach. It is a big part of why I moved back to Wilmington.
I have a 2 year old pit mix puppy named Sadie! She's quite energetic and often finds herself in my math problems :)
I am an only child. But oddly enough, my grandmother was one of 23 children!
I'm obsessed with Flaming Amy's, good sushi, Mexican food and COFFEE!
Pre-covid, I volunteered during the summer with the sea turtles on Masonboro Island.
I collect coffee mugs when I travel and I love a good road trip (especially to Ocracoke!)
