Hello Noble Eagles!
My name is Mary Lynn Crawford and this will be my 16th year teaching language arts. I am excited about the chance to get to know my students and help them have a successful year as 6th graders! I am a licensed Middle School Language Arts teacher and have degrees from Wake Forest and Duke Universities. My son is an 8th grader here at Noble and we have a cat named Jack. I am a product of the North Carolina Public School System and am thrilled to be teaching my favorite subject! I believe that literature and writing offer us countless ways to challenge and improve ourselves and our world.
We will be using technology this year but I ask that you remember that student engagement in the classroom is essential to success. No phones or bluetooth devices are allowed in the learning environment. I will take them if I see them. I also ask that you reach out to me to share any circumstances that may impact learning so that I can assist you and your student effectively. Over the course of the year, I encourage you to ask your students to show you what we are doing and how it impacts them personally and humanity on a global scale. We will be reading novels in class and independently as well as using the district’s Study Sync curriculum. Writing, skill acquisition, grammar, and vocabulary will all be part of instruction. It’s going to be challenging, but if students give their best efforts and embrace the idea that we are ALL learning and growing, I promise it will be a good year.
I know that the transition from elementary to middle school can be intimidating for both students and parents; I hope that you will consider me a partner as you navigate this time. I have high expectations for students—both academically and behaviorally. I do not anticipate issues, but want to be clear that learning and completing the school year successfully are my primary objectives. I do not tolerate disrespect from students towards me or other students. My expectations center around students being Respectful, Responsible, Honest, and Safe. I want students to demonstrate honesty and integrity in my classroom and know that I will do the same. Please read through the school discipline policy in order to understand the consequences that will result from poor decisions. If you have questions or concerns about any aspect of your student’s experience this year, I encourage you to contact me via email. I want to help in any way that I can, but can only help with the situations I am made aware of. Communication is essential! On the back of this letter you will find a lot of helpful information about how our class will work. Please keep this sheet somewhere easily accessible.
I appreciate everyone’s cooperation and look forward to spending the year with this special group of students!
Warm Regards,
Mary Lynn Crawford
