Honors Fundamentals of Nursing

This course is designed for students interested in medical careers where, basic nursing skills are required. This course is an enhanced adaptation of the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR) Nurse Aide 1 (CNA 1) curriculum. The honors course extends the essential standards curriculum to a higher, more challenging level. This course helps to prepare students for the National Nurse Aide Assessment (NNAAP). Work-based learning strategies appropriate for this course include a required clinical internship in a long term care agency. Students will be required to provide a current drug screening, flu vaccine, COVID vaccine, and tuberculosis screening before beginning the clinical internship. This class is offered for 10 seniors only per semester, through an application process.

SUPPLY LIST:

3 Ring Binder, 18 Dividers, Index cards (3x5 any color), pens/pencils, colored markers, watch with a second hand, paper, Clorox wipes, box of Kleenex, Hand sanitizer, Blood pressure cuff (optional, we have class ones) Stethoscope (optional, class provides as well), Scrubs (two sets) will get closer to clinicals. Occasionally will need additional supplies for projects
