How can you help at home?
Encourage your student to correct any assignments with a score below 70%. This helps them revisit mistakes and strengthen their understanding.
Practice Fact Fluency. Quick recall of math facts builds a strong foundation for more complex problem-solving.
Talk about math! Encourage your child to explain their thinking out loud. This will help build reasoning skills and confidence.
When your child is stuck, ask guiding questions: For example, "What do you already know?" or "What strategies have you not tried yet?" instead of giving the answer. Our goal is to build understanding, not just getting the problem right.
Model a Growth Mindset. It is okay to make mistakes, and struggling means they are learning. Celebrate effort as often as you celebrate correct answers. I always tell the kids: you can do hard things!
Use real-world math. Involve your student in cooking (fractions), shopping (rounding, estimating, decimals), or measuring things at home. Math is everywhere and showing its relevance keeps them engaged.
