Criteria for ESL Services:
Intensive:
K-WAPT: 14 or below
1-12: Wida Screener/ACCESS scores
A student grades 1-12 must be currently identified as EL & must meet at least two of the following criteria:
• In U.S. Schools less than two years.
• ELP below Emerging in Reading; 1.0-2.0
• ELP below Emerging in Writing: 1.0-2.0
• ELP in Listening &/or Speaking 1.0-3.0
• Needs language support to participate in content class
Needs support transitioning into US culture and society.
• Not proficient on standardized tests EOGs/EOCs.
• S.I.F.E: Students with Interrupted formal education, especially if non- or semi-literate in first language.
- Use teacher feedback to help possibly gain a fuller picture of the student’s needs.
Supportive:
1-12: Wida Screener/ACCESS scores.
A student grades 1-12 must be currently identified as EL & must meet at least two of the following criteria:
• In U.S. Schools two years or more.
• ELP below Expanding in Reading: 2.0-4.0.
• ELP below Expanding in Writing: 2.0-4.0
• ELP in Listening &/or Speaking: 2.0-4.0
• Needs support with class work/struggles to manage academics.
Needs support with post-secondary possibilities (Middle & HS).

Transitional:
K-WAPT: 22 - 26

A student grades 1-12 must be currently identified as EL & must meet at least two of the following criteria:
• Years in U.S. schools varies.
• ELP in Reading: 4.0-5.0
• ELP in Writing: 4.0 – 5.5
• ELP in Listening &/or Speaking: 4.0-6.0
Upon request may need support with classwork, scheduling and post-secondary opportunities (Middle & HS).
•May be proficient on standardized tests EOGs/EOCs.
Manages class content well.
-Some interrupted formal schooling and/or semi-literate in First Language.
- Student needs support with HS graduation requirements.
- Use teacher feedback to help possibly gain a fuller picture of the student’s needs.
