Park Scholarship NC State

The mission of the Park Scholarships program is to bring exceptional students to NC State, based on outstanding accomplishments and potential in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The program develops and supports Park Scholars in these areas, preparing them for lifelong contributions to the university, state, nation, and world.

The Park Scholarships program is named for the late Roy H. Park ’31, an NC State alumnus who created the charitable Park Foundation, dedicated to education, media, and the environment. With a generous grant from the Park Foundation, the Park Scholarships program was established in 1996 to provide a superb educational opportunity for exceptionally talented and well-prepared young people who merit the intellectual challenge of a distinguished faculty and a superior university. To date, 22 classes of Park Scholars have graduated and have built a vibrant alumni network.

Approximately 40 scholarships will be awarded this year to outstanding entering freshmen for undergraduate study in any discipline at NC State. ECU Global Fellows Program

Last year, East Carolina University initiated a new program for students with an interest in culture, travel, and global issues more broadly. The program, called Global Fellows, is open to all students with a cumulative unweighted of 3.25 GPA or above. Prospective students from all majors can apply.

The program includes a $1,500 study abroad scholarship, and targeted programming designed to build intercultural skills and a strong resume. As first year students Global Fellows will live in a designated residence hall with others in their cohort. First semester they will take a specialized freshman seminar course and in their second semester they will take one of ECU’s award-winning Global Understanding courses, which will allow them to connect and interact virtually with students from 2-3 universities abroad during the semester.

We also provide students with an internationally focused Career Preparation Series in conjunction with ECU’s Career Services office and multiple resume building opportunities through special internships, on-campus employment opportunities, and internationally-focused student organizations.

If any of your students may be interested in this program, please direct them to the Global Fellows website at: https://global-affairs.ecu.edu/global-fellows/. The application for the program can be found at: https://ecu.academicworks.com/opportunities/22516.  The deadline to apply for the Global Fellows program is January 15th.

The Horton & Mendez Injury Attorneys have created a scholarship to assist students pursuing a college education after having been impacted by a traumatic brain injury.

Our founding partner, Nick Mendez, understands the impact of traumatic brain injuries on individuals and their families. Nick’s father, Bobby Mendez, suffered a severe traumatic brain injury when he slipped on a patch of ice outside his home and struck his head on the ground. He suffered several hemorrhages, hematomas, and was placed in an induced coma. After a month in the hospital and rounds of therapy, Bobby made a strong recovery and has returned to regular life. This scholarship is being offered in his honor and to help benefit those who have been impacted by these life-changing injuries.

To enter, the recipient must submit an essay or video answering the question:

If you or a family member have suffered a brain injury, you may qualify for the . The scholarship will make one award of $2,500. The recipient will have been impacted by a brain injury and will be pursuing a college education.

Live Mas Scholarship

All applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered eligible for the 2023 Live Más Scholarship Program:

This is the sixth year of the Andrew Stephen Hendrix scholarship.  My husband and I created it in honor of our son, who passed away in 2017.   He worked for several years after college in the restaurant business in Wilmington, and was well-loved for his work ethic, honesty, and leadership.  He encountered many co-workers who were working in order to pay for their education, and so our scholarship, in the amount of $2600, gives special consideration to applicants currently or previously working in the restaurant industry.

Here is a brief description of the criteria:

High school graduates in New Hanover County, NC who have been accepted to an institution of higher learning, or who already attend college. Applicants must demonstrate a strong work ethic, leadership skills, loyalty and dedication, in keeping with the character traits exemplified by Andy Hendrix. Students who have worked in the restaurant industry in New Hanover County may receive strong consideration.   Please note:   applicants must reside in New Hanover County but their college location is not limited to New Hanover County.

The application is now  available on the NC Community Foundation website.   The application deadline is March 15, 2023, and the winning applicant will be notified in late May or early June.
