Park Scholarship NC State
The mission of the Park Scholarships program is to bring exceptional students to NC State, based on outstanding accomplishments and potential in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The program develops and supports Park Scholars in these areas, preparing them for lifelong contributions to the university, state, nation, and world.
The Park Scholarships program is named for the late Roy H. Park ’31, an NC State alumnus who created the charitable Park Foundation, dedicated to education, media, and the environment. With a generous grant from the Park Foundation, the Park Scholarships program was established in 1996 to provide a superb educational opportunity for exceptionally talented and well-prepared young people who merit the intellectual challenge of a distinguished faculty and a superior university. To date, 22 classes of Park Scholars have graduated and have built a vibrant alumni network.
Approximately 40 scholarships will be awarded this year to outstanding entering freshmen for undergraduate study in any discipline at NC State. In a continuing effort to reduce the burden of application for students and counselors, and to reach as many qualified candidates as possible, we have made the following changes to the Park Scholarships program application process:

Our deadline for transcripts, school reports, and school profiles will coincide with NC State’s early action materials deadline. Reminders and updates will be communicated by NC State’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
Two recommendations are still required for the application; students will no longer be able to submit additional recommendations.
For the 2022-2023 application cycle, ACT/SAT scores are not required for the Park Scholarships program application or admission to NC State.

ECU Global Fellows Program
Last year, East Carolina University initiated a new program for students with an interest in culture, travel, and global issues more broadly. The program, called Global Fellows, is open to all students with a cumulative unweighted of 3.25 GPA or above. Prospective students from all majors can apply.
The program includes a $1,500 study abroad scholarship, and targeted programming designed to build intercultural skills and a strong resume. As first year students Global Fellows will live in a designated residence hall with others in their cohort. First semester they will take a specialized freshman seminar course and in their second semester they will take one of ECU’s award-winning Global Understanding courses, which will allow them to connect and interact virtually with students from 2-3 universities abroad during the semester.
We also provide students with an internationally focused Career Preparation Series in conjunction with ECU’s Career Services office and multiple resume building opportunities through special internships, on-campus employment opportunities, and internationally-focused student organizations.

The Horton & Mendez Injury Attorneys have created a scholarship to assist students pursuing a college education after having been impacted by a traumatic brain injury.
Our founding partner, Nick Mendez, understands the impact of traumatic brain injuries on individuals and their families. Nick’s father, Bobby Mendez, suffered a severe traumatic brain injury when he slipped on a patch of ice outside his home and struck his head on the ground. He suffered several hemorrhages, hematomas, and was placed in an induced coma. After a month in the hospital and rounds of therapy, Bobby made a strong recovery and has returned to regular life. This scholarship is being offered in his honor and to help benefit those who have been impacted by these life-changing injuries.
To enter, the recipient must submit an essay or video answering the question:
If you or a family member have suffered a brain injury, you may qualify for the . The scholarship will make one award of $2,500. The recipient will have been impacted by a brain injury and will be pursuing a college education.
$2,500 — one scholarship to be awarded
Anyone who has suffered from a traumatic brain injury; anyone whose family member has suffered from a traumatic brain injury. The person must be pursuing a college degree.

Live Mas Scholarship
All applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered eligible for the 2023 Live Más Scholarship Program:
Applicant is a legal resident of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia (“D.C.”) who is at least 16 years of age and no older than 26 years of age as of the last day of the Program Period located in the United States or D.C.
If an applicant is a minor in his/her/their state of residence, they must receive parental consent from his/her/their parent/legal guardian to apply.
Applicant must be on-track to apply for or enrolled in an accredited post-high school/post-secondary educational program (including accredited two-and four-year colleges, universities, vocational-technical and trade schools).
Applicant must be willing to work with the Taco Bell Foundation’s Scholarship Management Company throughout the application and award process.
Employees of Taco Bell Foundation, Inc., Taco Bell of America, LLC, Taco Bell Corp. and its parent, subsidiaries of its parent, franchisees, licensees, and the advertising and promotion agencies involved with this Program are not eligible to apply or receive a scholarship through this version of the program.
Taco Bell restaurant employees can apply to the Live Más Scholarship for Restaurant Employees Program.
This is the sixth year of the Andrew Stephen Hendrix scholarship. My husband and I created it in honor of our son, who passed away in 2017. He worked for several years after college in the restaurant business in Wilmington, and was well-loved for his work ethic, honesty, and leadership. He encountered many co-workers who were working in order to pay for their education, and so our scholarship, in the amount of $2600, gives special consideration to applicants currently or previously working in the restaurant industry.
Here is a brief description of the criteria:
High school graduates in New Hanover County, NC who have been accepted to an institution of higher learning, or who already attend college. Applicants must demonstrate a strong work ethic, leadership skills, loyalty and dedication, in keeping with the character traits exemplified by Andy Hendrix. Students who have worked in the restaurant industry in New Hanover County may receive strong consideration. Please note: applicants must reside in New Hanover County but their college location is not limited to New Hanover County.
The application is now available on the NC Community Foundation website. The application deadline is March 15, 2023, and the winning applicant will be notified in late May or early June.
CHILD SUPPORT SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
1. At least one parent must be a member of the North Carolina Child Support Council or a client of the
Child Support Program (through either Child Support services or Clerk of Court services).
2. Applicant must be a resident of North Carolina and a graduating high school senior.
3. Applicant must have been accepted by a school of higher learning: a College, University, Community
College or Technical School. Applicant needs to attach a copy of the acceptance letter.
4. Applicant must have maintained an overall C average or above during his/her high school career.

6. The scholarship will be awarded the first semester.
7. Recipient must send proof of enrollment to the Treasurer of NCCSC: Renee Davis-Jones: renee.davis-
The money will be sent directly to the school you are attending. Should the recipient fail to provide
proof of enrollment by August 31, 2023, the scholarship will be forfeited.
8. Application must be postmarked no later than March 24, 2023. Final decisions will be made no
later than April 5, 2023. The recipients will be recognized at the NC Child Support Conference in
August 2023.
9. Only the scholarship recipients selected will be notified.

2023 Herter-O’Neal Scholarship Guidelines
This scholarship is offered to anyone pursuing a college degree (Associate or Bachelor’s) in
business or a business-related field of study or enrolled in a diploma program that results in a
degree (Associate or Bachelor’s), with the exception of current members or those eligible to
become members of the NCCEAPA.
Applicants must be a legal resident of North Carolina.
The privacy of applicants will be protected.
State scholarship amount: $1000
District finalists not chosen for the state scholarship will receive $250.
Funds are paid directly to the school and not to the individual.
Effective 2008 – scholarship is open statewide.
Each year the Retired Teachers of the Cape fear Area give a $1000 scholarship to a student from the Cape Fear Area which includes three counties (New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender). This year the rotation falls on New Hanover County.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C., on January 16, 1920. The sorority’s ideals are Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood. The Zeta Rho Zeta Graduate Chapter is one of many graduate chapters of our beloved organization. Overview
Underage Drinking Prevention & Education Award
The New Hanover County ABC Board is sponsoring an Underage Drinking Prevention
& Education Award for high school students. Students who apply are eligible to receive
a $1,500 scholarship award; awards will be selected by a panel of judges at the
NHCABC Board.
To apply, students must: 1. Complete an application; 2. Write a well-researched essay
explaining the facts and/or dangers surrounding the use and abuse of alcohol by minors;
and 3. Develop a plan of action for sharing the research project with classmates and/or
school.
Eligible students must work with a supervising teacher at their school or Sunday school
to incorporate their research project into the classroom or school/Sunday school
environment. Some examples of incorporating the researched information into the
classroom include, but are not limited to: creating class discussion topics related to the
dangers of underage drinking; publishing the research paper in the school newspaper;
creating a bulletin board or display in the school; incorporating underage drinking
prevention tips or facts into school announcements; presenting the research paper to a
class or assembly; developing a video that illustrates the researched information; and
more.
Eligibility Requirements
All students in grades 12 and residing in New Hanover County are eligible,
including students in private and public schools, as well as home schooled students.
Each entrant must be under the supervision and direction of a teacher/Sunday school
teacher.
The student must submit all essays and student entry forms on or before the due date
of April 21, 2023.
Students who have family members employed by the NC ABC Commission or the
New Hanover County ABC Board are not eligible to participate.

Regulations
All essays must comply with the following rules before submission:
Each essay must reflect the student’s own research, writing and original thinking.
Only one (1) essay may be submitted by each student.
A sponsoring teacher may sponsor more than one of his/her students.
Submissions must include, in addition to the essay, a detailed description of how
the student will incorporate the essay’s information and research into the
classroom or school environment.
Each student must complete and attach a student entry form.
Teachers must verify and sign the verification of authenticity on the student entry
form.
Essays should include references to all research. Those references should be
clearly identified within the text (i.e. parenthetical documentation, end notes or
foot notes are accepted).
Essays should also include a separate Bibliography/Works Cited page.
Entries must be postmarked on or before due date on April 21, 2023.
Essays will not be returned to the author.
Judging
A panel of judges selected by the NHCABC Board will judge the entries based on the
following criteria:
I. Comprehension (1-20 points) How well does the essay reflect a thorough
comprehension of the issues involved the essay topic?
II. Organization (1-20 points) Does the essay follow a logical and easily understood
progression? Does research support the essay's main points?
III. Creativity (1-20 points) Does the essay use diverse resources, including quotes,
statistics, etc. and take a creative angle on the issue?
IV. Writing (1-20 points) Does the student use correct grammar, spelling,
punctuation, and concise language?
V. Peer-Led Education (1-20 points) Does the entry include a reasonable plan of
action for sharing the information with the student’s classmates and/or school? Is
the plan engaging, creative, and well thought out?
