Because our students are new to school, I wanted to explain a little more about our classroom behavior plan, which also goes along with our Murrayville school-wide expectations. Our school prides itself on empowering our students to set S.A.I.L. (S-Show Respect, A- Accountable for our Actions, I-In Control, L- Lead with Kindness), and become life-long explorers, ready for a diverse and ever changing world. This also helps to keep all of our teachers and teacher assistants consistent throughout the grade level and our school.
Procedures: We will have specific procedures for every aspect of the day. At the beginning of the school year, we will carefully teach expectations, routines, and procedures. We will spend a lot of time modeling correct behavior, role-playing social situations, and helping the class understand the class rules based on the Whole Brain teaching program. These include- Rule 1: Follow directions quickly, Rule 2: Raise your hand for permission to speak, Rule 3: Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat, Rule 4: Make smart choices, and Rule 5: Keep your dear community happy.
Rewards: Our classroom will have many rewards for positive behavior, whether it is individually or as a whole class. This will include things like verbal praise, positive notes or emails sent home, special privileges, stickers, Hershey kisses, drawing from the treasure box, extra recess, etc. Throughout the day, students will have a chance to earn Pete Bucks. Just as they can earn them, they can always lose a Pete Buck depending on the choices they make throughout the day. Every Friday, if a student has earned 10 Pete Bucks, they will have a chance to pick something out of the treasure box! Any donations to our treasure box is GREATLY appreciated☺
Our Communication Log
In your child’s daily A.N.C.H.O.R. communication binder, will be a sheet communicating how your child’s day was at school. Please review this each night and sign showing that you received their daily behavior update. This communication log will be extremely important in staying involved with your child’s day at school and with keeping us all on the same page. We want to ensure your child has the best possible Kindergarten experience.
Please review these expectations carefully with your student. As always please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns. We are going to have an amazing year!
