John Matrisciano

Coach Matrisciano is currently in his 6th year as a coach on the men's and women's soccer team and 4th year as the head coach for the men.
Coach Matrisciano played as a goalkeeper all 4 years in high school and all 4 years through College. He competed as a goalkeeper 2 years at Elms College in Chicopee, Massachusetts and 2 years at Averett University in Danville, Virginia.
Matrisciano has been coaching for 8 years here in New Hanover county. He spent his first 3 years Coaching the men and women's side at New Hanover High School where he assisted the men's team to a conference championship in 2019. He has been named Regional Assistant Coach of the year (2019, 2021).
He currently works as a social studies teacher at Laney High School where he holds a bachelors degree in History and Political Science with a Masters in Secondary Education. He also holds his NFHS Coaching Level 3 Certificate and a USSF Grassroots License.
Justin Jones
Women's Head Coach
Coach Jones is in his 11th year of coaching soccer. He coached for 6 years in Greenville, NC before coming to Laney in 2019.
Coach Jones currently teaches in the social studies department here at Laney. He has his undergraduate and master degress from The East Carolina University. Jones also has his NFHS Coaching Level 3 Certificate.
Kevin Rice
Men's JV and Assistant Coach
Coach Rice has coached 5 years with the Laney men's soccer team, and 4 years as the head JV coach.
Coach Rice played 4 years in high school and one year as a walk-on in at UNCW.
He has been coaching for over 20 years in North Carolina at the middle/high school as a JV head coach, varsity assistant, and Varsity head coach for men’s and women’s, and at the club level as well.
He currently works as a special education teacher at Laney High School where he holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. He also holds his NFHS Coaching Level 2 Certificate, a USSF D, NSCAA advanced regional, and Goalkeeping level 1, 2, and 3 licenses’.
David Pritchard
Women's JV and Assistant Coach
Men's Assistant Coach
Coach Pritchard joins the women's side in first season coaching for the Buccaneers this spring.
Pritchard played competitive soccer in Hong Kong and England before representing the University of St. Andrews First XI in Scotland. During his time in college he captained and coached the soccer club: including leading them on two successive, undefeated tours to Europe (Spain and the Netherlands).
After graduating, he played competitive amateur soccer in London, before moving to Atlanta. An ACL injury made playing the game less fun - and so he stopped.
Pritchard currently teaches social studies here at Laney High School. He has his NFHS Coaching Level 1 Certificate and a PHD in Byzantine History.
