Welcome to Bellamy for the 2023-24 school year!

I have been honored to serve as the principal of Bellamy Elementary for the past 8 years.  I began my career in education teaching math at Hoggard High school in 1999.  I have served as a math teacher at Murray Middle, an assistant principal at Williston and Pine Valley, and principal at CRECC.  I have a BS in Business Management from UNCW as well as my math and social studies certification from UNCW.  In 2006, I was admitted to the  NC Principals Fellows program and completed my Masters in School Administration in 2008.

We currently have over 560 students with the following demographics:   Asian -  2%, African American -  5%, White - 77%, Hispanic - 11%, and Multi-racial - 4%.  Our free or reduced lunch percentage is approximately  38% .

We have 14 certified staff members that have been at Bellamy for less than 3 years, but these same staff members have been in the field of education for an average of 17.7 years.  Our front office staff have all been at Bellamy for under 2 years, but collectively have an average of 14.3 years experience in the school system.

Our 45 certified staff members have an average time of 8.6 years at Bellamy, and an average of 19.9 years in the field of education.  Our 3-5 grade teachers have been at Bellamy for an average of 12.5 years and have an average of 22.1 years of experience in education.  Approximately 20% of our teachers have their National Board Certification.  Our current staff has an average time at Bellamy of over 10 years and an average of over 20 years in the field of education.

With regards to EOG testing  proficiency, since 2014, Bellamy’s proficiency in Science has been between 80 and 88 percent;  in reading, between 68 and 75 percent; and in math, between 70 and 81 percent.  With regards to NC Growth as measured by EVAAS/DPI, Bellamy’s overall growth composite index has been between 2.96 and 6.93.  For the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years, Bellamy’s growth index was in the top 10% of all schools in the state. During last year’s pandemic, all grades at Bellamy either met or exceeded growth. Bellamy has exceeded growth every year since 2014!

2020 5th Grade Slideshow

Thank you to Ms. Duggins for compiling all the pics that our parents submitted for the slide show this year.  Also, thank you to our teachers and class parents for sharing pictures from field trips and other events during the 2019-20 school year.  Finally, thank you to Mrs. James and the staff of CRECC for giving me the framed picture of this group of students from the first year I had them in kindergarten at CRECC.  It has been an absolute joy having your children at Bellamy for the past 5 years and I am honored to have been their principal since they've been in NHCS!  They are truly a special group to me and I know they'll do awesome in middle school.

2020 5th Grade Promotion Parade!

Thank you to all the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other family members (pets included) that helped make our 5th Grade Parade such a special event for these students.  This was the first group of students I had at CRECC and it was awesome to see them make one last trip around the car line before heading off to middle school.

Rachel Mack - Student Slides

Students in Mrs. Mack's class put together a slide show to share how Mrs. Mack impacted them this past year (and possibly in 1st grade!) and to celebrate the things she loved.  Mrs. Southerland shared the slides with parents that were able to Zoom with the class on January 28, 2022.  Please enjoy this recording and thank you to all the parents, families, and other schools in New Hanover County that have supported our Bellamy community during this difficult time.
