¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español! Welcome to Spanish class! My name is Señorita Lawrence and I'm very excited to share the Spanish language with you! I've been teaching Spanish since 2012 and I love the way learning a new language opens a whole new world (cue Aladdin) for students. From books, music, and TV, to everyday interactions and friendships... knowing another language can open doors you didn't even know were there.
"To have a second language is to possess a second soul." -Charlemagne
Course Expectations
As a student in Spanish, it is your responsibility to participate in all class activities. You will be required to read, write, listen, and speak in Spanish. Perfection is not expected– only effort is expected! Mistakes are welcome and encouraged. Language mistakes help you grow and help prevent the same mistakes from occurring in the future and make you a better speaker. When learning a language you need to take risks and feel comfortable doing so.
Effort is essential.
Our testing days are Tuesdays & Fridays– this does not mean we will test every Tuesday and Friday, just that if we have a test it will fall on one of those days. All assignments are expected to be completed and turned in on time. Your final grade will be made up of the following:
Q1 Q2
Tests: 35% Tests: 40%
Quizzes: 35% Quizzes: 40%
Classwork: 15% Classwork: 20%
Midterm: 15%
Final Exam is 20% of overall grade.
Being present is essential when learning a foreign language. Exposure to the language is crucial to understanding and retention and if students are absent they will be missing that daily exposure.
