First and foremost, thank you for your excellent work with our MLs/ELs!
Here are some resources that will help you work with your ML/EL and his/her family:
Parent liaisons are responsible for interpreting for teachers and parents. Here are the liaisons who interpret for Anderson, Pine Valley and Wrightsville Beach:
Anderson:
Luisa Brown

Pine Valley:
Maria Elena Viglucci

Wrightsville Beach:
Viqui Castillo

Free service you can use on ANY device to send messages to parents in other languages for:
- reminders (field trip forms, PTA events, etc.)
- quick updates on behavior or academics
- letting families know if a child is sick
- etc.
You type in your message in English and the parent/guardian receives the message as a text in their language (you have to choose the language). The families won't see a phone number associated with the message if you send it from your phone - they will just see a code. Families can respond back and it will translate the message to you into English.
If the liaisons are not available, and Talking Points is not working, then you may ask me. I speak Spanish and French in addition to English (my native language).
This is a tool that allows teachers to quickly make, customize, and print typical notes in English and/or Spanish that are sent home to parents or given to the students. This is done by using templates and allowing the teachers to customize some of the content, choose a color scheme and add a graphic.
Information on how to work with students brand-new to the US, who speak no English.
