Welcome to 6th Grade Computer Science!
In this class, we’ll focus on the problem-solving process for real-life applications — skills you can use in school and beyond.
You’ll learn how computers work:
Input – Information you give the computer (keyboard, mouse, touchscreen, microphone, sensors)
Processing – How the computer follows instructions to decide what to do
Output – What the computer gives back (images, sounds, printed pages)
Storage – Data the computer saves for later use
A major project will be creating an App Proposal — a detailed plan for how your app would work, including its inputs, outputs, processing, and storage.
We’ll also improve typing skills to type quickly and accurately without looking at the keyboard — a time-saving skill useful for schoolwork, notes, emails, and more.
Finally, you’ll get a brief introduction to block coding, a beginner-friendly way to program by connecting visual blocks. This will help you understand programming logic and create your own interactive projects.
By the end, you’ll have stronger tech skills, better problem-solving abilities, and the confidence to tackle digital challenges anywhere.
Welcome, 7th Graders!
This semester, you'll embark on an exciting journey into computer science where the power of data meets real-life creativity on the web.
You will create your own webpage using HTML and CSS. Using Code.org’s Web Lab, you'll learn to build and style a webpage—organizing content, applying color and layout, and crafting user-friendly designs.
Through our Data & Society unit, you'll explore how computers understand and use information — from representing facts in binary to interpreting large data sets and automating decisions that help drive real-world systems.
By the end of this semester, you’ll not only understand how data shapes decision-making but also be able to design beautiful, functional web pages. These are powerful skills that help you in school projects—and beyond.
Welcome, 8th Graders!
This semester, you’ll explore how fun and powerful coding can be—starting with game creation in JavaScript using Game Lab, and then moving on to app development with App Lab, where you’ll follow a real design process to make something that solves a real problem.
Along the way, you'll strengthen your programming skills, learn to think like a designer, and build projects that are both creative and practical. By the end, you'll have the tools to bring your own digital ideas to life confidently.
First 9 Weeks – Game Development
You’ll begin by building interactive sprite-based games using Game Lab, where you'll learn key programming concepts like object-oriented design, event handling, and animation in JavaScript.
Second 9 Weeks – App Creation
Next, you’ll shift to App Lab, designing and prototyping your own apps using JavaScript. You'll apply a real-world design process—identify a problem, empathize with users, and build an app that addresses that need.
