Honors Service Learning Class overview
This is an honors-level course that requires students to work alongside our students with disabilities as classmates. The focus of this class is to unify all students through sport and physical activity while delivering the North Carolina Standard Course of Study to the students with disabilities. This class requires strong leadership skills and a willingness to create an environment that maximizes everyone's potential. Students must be capable of daily physical activity and have a positive attitude. We want to create a better environment for all our students and community members. Our students will work on being strong leaders with a concern for others and a willingness to strive for creating a better environment.
Lifetime Sports Class overview
Students will work together to be more confident and competent in a variety of physical activities that can be performed throughout a person's lifetime. This course empowers inclusivity and success for all students while enjoying physical activity. Students will experience, and learn skills, and rules of different lifetime sports throughout the semester. Activities may include (but are not limited to) yoga, golf, tennis, bocce ball, badminton, pickleball, table tennis, bowling, and archery.
Health and PE Class overview
In this course students will integrate a variety of health concepts, skills, and behaviors to plan for their personal, lifelong health goals. These include awareness and consequences of risky behaviors, disease prevention, overall wellness, and identification of community health resources. The students will apply concepts and principles of mechanics and anatomy in relation to human movement and apply the concepts and principles of the body’s metabolic response to short-term and long-term physical activity. Movement experiences will enable the student to demonstrate competent and confident movement in a variety of categories. Students will demonstrate the social competencies needed to be a contributing member of society. Seeing themselves as having an active role in creating a healthy lifestyle as an individual, for his/her family, and for the larger community
Tennis Class overview
This course is designed for students wanting to improve their fundamental skills, learn more about singles and doubles game play, and practice tournament sportsmanship in actual game situations. Special emphasis is placed on lifetime fitness.
About me
This is my 6th year at Hoggard. I have been teaching and coaching in North Carolina for the last 15 years. I am a graduate of UNCW.
