Wild About Second Grade

Welcome to Room 303 and the exciting world of Second Grade! My name is Jennifer Choate, and I am absolutely delighted to be your child's teacher this year! This marks my tenth year at Codington Elementary School and my twenty-first year in the field of education. I am proud to be a National Board Certified Teacher in Literacy and Reading Language Arts, dedicated to fostering a love for reading and learning in my students.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree from the esteemed Watson School of Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and I am honored to be a veteran Master Teacher within this remarkable institution. Together, we will embark on an incredible journey of discovery, growth, and fun in the classroom. I can’t wait to get started!

I am dedicated to cultivating a vibrant learning environment where my students feel both comfortable and safe as they embark on their journey to enhance their skills. Every day, my students are encouraged to think critically and creatively in a space that fosters risk-taking, inspiration, and support. Through engaging project-based and digital learning activities, they collaborate and learn from one another, building a strong sense of community in the classroom. I am absolutely thrilled to kick off this exciting new school year with your wonderful child!

In addition to my teaching role, I have been happily married to my husband, Robert, for twenty-six years. We are proud parents of a twenty-year-old son who is currently preparing for his JUNIOR Year at The Citadel Military College in Charleston, South Carolina (Go Bulldogs!). He is majoring in Intelligence and National Security, with a minor in Military Intelligence. He will commission in the Air Force after graduation.

When I’m not in the classroom, I love traveling to Charleston and indulging in my favorite shows, including Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, The Big Bang Theory, and psychological thrillers. I also enjoy reading, swimming, cooking, organizing, and cleaning—keeping life both fun and tidy!

My goal for this school year is to create a nurturing and safe environment where each of my students can grow, learn, lead, and ultimately succeed.
