About the teacher

Forever in Fifth ( just kidding! )

My name is Megan Gill. I joined Codington April 2022 and I am ecstatic to be teaching 5th grade again, after a fantastic year teaching 5th grade science last year.  5th grade was a challenging year in Elementary school for me growing up as everyone was changing and I was trying to navigate relationships with my friends. As a result, I try to make each day a positive social experience for the students while they find a productive struggle academically. I believe when students feel accepted, seen, and valued, just as adults, they thrive and are ready to embrace and overcome the academic challenges we set for them in fifth grade. So, while we encourage students to advocate for themselves, and reach out to their teacher, please remember, your voice is a powerful tool for them and I would be more than happy to aid in any concerns, or problems.

I have a BA in International Studies and Language Studies (Spanish and Japanese) with a minor in TESOL from Western Carolina University -- linguistics is my special-interest study niche. In 2018, I moved to Osaka, Japan to teach Kindergarten at an International School for several years. Living and working abroad was a rewarding experience.  When I returned to the US, I studied at UNC-Wilmington and graduated with my Masters of Arts in Teaching Elementary Education

I love spending time outdoors – walking, hiking, running, playing sports with friends whenever possible! Also, I currently am studying Japanese and Korean, and am interested in adding Hindi studies after I finish taking a Japanese proficiency test December 3rd 🤪! By the way… My Favorite Drinks Hot Chai, or Salted Caramel Cold Brew are my favorite drinks. My favorite food is anything spicy, but probably a Korean dish called Kimchi Jjigae, though I eat the vegetarian version of it.
