Vocabulary Week 1
Hydrosphere: All water on Earth. Examples: ocean, glaciers, water vapor, etc.
Solid: Particles are close together, with very little space.
Liquid: Particles have some space and room to vibrate.
Gas: Particles have LOTS of space and can move around
Water Cycle: Process of how water gains and loses energy and moves around the earth.
Evaporation: Step in the water cycle where particles gain energy and movement increases. Liquid water turns into water vapor.
Transpiration: Step in the water cycle where water evaporates from plants.
Condensation: Step in the water cycle when water vapor loses energy and movement slows. Water vapor turns into water droplets and condenses.
Precipitation: Water falls from the clouds through the atmosphere as rain, snow, sleet, hail.
