Hello! My name is Alyse Pomeroy. It is a pleasure for me to be teaching your children for the 2023-2024 school year! I was born and raised in Manistee, MI on Lake Michigan. I graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2011 with a degree in special education and a minor elementary education. I have endorsements in emotional impairments (emotional disturbance) and cognitive impairments (intellectual disability).
In 2012, I accepted my first teaching job at a middle school in Grand Rapids, MI as a 6th grade resource room teacher. Then in 2013 I accepted another teaching position as a self-contained cognitively impaired elementary school teacher in my hometown of Manistee, MI. I taught in this program for 6 years. In 2018, I graduated with my Master's degree from Oakland University in special education with a concentration in autism spectrum disorder and acquired an autism endorsement. In August 2018, my husband and I moved from Michigan to Wilmington to escape the cold weather. We vacationed here several times before moving and fell in love with the area, especially the beaches.
The past four years, I've taught in New Hanover County at Wrightsboro Elementary as a K-2 Intensive Behavior Support (IBS) teacher and at College Park Elementary as an Intensive Social and Communication Support (ISCS) teacher. I have been a special education teacher at Porters Neck Elementary since we opened in 2020.
In September 2019, my husband and I welcomed our first child Kinsley. We also have 2 dogs that are rescues. In my free time, I enjoy going to the beach, spending time with my family, traveling, and taking fitness classes at the gym.
