Ms. Riley Paulson began her musical journey in 6th grade playing cello. She continued on in orchestra throughout her time at Jacksonville High School and was an active musician within the school and community. While at Jacksonville High School, Ms. Paulson participated in many state and regional events including Eastern Regional Orchestra, Southeast Honors String Festival, All-County Orchestra, ECU Next Gen Concert and the University of South Carolina Chamber Music Competition. Within her school she also performed in the Cardinal Quartet, played bass in the Cardinal Jazz Band, sang in the Choir and performed in the school’s fall play and annual musical, notable roles she performed included Penny in Hairspray and Marian Paroo in The Music Man.
After graduating in 2016, Ms. Paulson began studying under Dr. Alexander Ezerman and Dr. Rebecca MacLeod at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Education. While at UNCG, Ms. Paulson was active in organizations both within and outside of the Music Department. She taught music lessons throughout her college career, was a member of NAfME(C) where she served as the social media director and was an active member of NCASTA as well. Ms. Paulson was a Peck Alumni Leadership (PAL) teacher in the School of Music’s outreach program, which offers orchestra lessons and classes to underserved students. Ms. Paulson also served as Song Chair for her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, and served as the Vice President of Greek Affairs for the CPC community at UNC-Greensboro. Ms. Paulson continues to be involved in NAfME as the NCMEA Board of Director's Tri-M Music Honors Society Chair, Young Professionals Chair and as one of the Orchestra MPA Site Hosts and ASTA.
Outside of school you can find Ms. Paulson spending time with her family and friends, binge watching her favorite shows with her cat, Mittens, and reading enough books to start her own library.
