I was was recently awarded the ESU 8 Perkins Grant to help in purchasing The Health and Science Pipeline Initiative (HASPI) Medical Anatomy and Physiology curriculum and materials. My plan is to partner up with the local county volunteer fire department/EMT, Boone County health clinic, and local nursing home to give our students the opportunity to experience career advisement and development. This will also give my students the opportunity to job shadow and intern to experience various healthcare careers. The Medical Terminology course I am currently teaching and will be using these resources in is a dual credit course through Northeast Community College. Acquiring the tools and equipment will enhance the course and will also benefit Northeast Community College. Student performance will be assessed using both the NGSS science standards and the National Health Science Standards. I am a highly qualified and certified Health Science instructor with my masters degree in Science Education from the University of Nebraska - Kearney. I plan to maintain my Registered Medical Technologist certification through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Giving my students the opportunity for training, mentoring, and possible certification in the healthcare care fields. My ultimate goal is to encourage my students to come back to Nebraska and work in rural communities in the healthcare fields.
I was also awarded funding through our local Newman Grove Community Club to acquire resources to support my 8-12 classrooms. This next year I will be posting pictures of my students using those resources.
