Ngā Mihi
It is timely to acknowledge all the time, energy, and expertise our parent volunteers devote to supporting our kura and ensuring it can offer a wide range of enriching experiences to our students at all levels. Be it as sports coaches, team managers, supporting cultural activities, or as members of the Parents' Association, ngā mihi for your service and contributions to our school's academic and co-curricular life, and to its community feel. All of this reflects our school values - manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, and kairangi whaiaro in action. Ka rawe!
School Board Elections - Have Your Say
Voting for our Board nominees is now open, and we encourage every whānau to take part. Serving on the Board is one of the most valuable ways people can give back to our school - offering their time, expertise, and energy to make a difference for all of our ākonga.
Just as our sports coaches and team managers volunteer countless hours to guide and support our students on the field, our Board membes do the same behind the scenes, shaping the future of Napier Girls' High School. Their mahi is about service, leadership, and strengthening our community.
Please take the opportunity to cast your vote - your voice matters. Voting closes Wednesday 10 September 2025. Results declared Tuesday 16 September.
One important aspect of leadership is service, and a leadership role that lends itself to this definition is the student representative on the School Board. This is an important position in the school and requires an array of leadership attributes including the ability to connect across the student body with integrity, trustworthiness and an understanding of the complex nature of a school. We are currently calling for nominations, which close Tuesday 2 September. I would like to take this opportunity to mihi our present student Board representative Rosa Angland. She carries out the role with much support of the school and student body. I know that Rosa will support the next successful candidate.
Wishing you all the best for the rest of the term. Ngā mihi nui
Mrs Dawn Ackroyd
Polls close 4.00pm Wednesday 10 September.
Results declared on Tuesday 16 September.

House Choir Competition
Excitement is building as we gear up for the highly anticipated end-of-term House Choir Competition! The corridors are already alive with sound as each house rehearses tirelessly, fine-tuning harmonies and perfecting choreography.
This year’s set piece is the upbeat and infectious Better When I’m Dancin’ by Meghan Trainor — a song guaranteed to bring energy and smiles to the stage. Alongside this, each house has carefully selected a second piece to truly showcase their creativity and wow the adjudicator.
The big event will take place on the very last day of term, period 5 — a perfect send-off before the holidays. We can’t wait to see which house will shine the brightest. Best of luck to all our House Leaders and their choirs as they prepare to lift the roof with song!
Theatresports
NGHS entered the Manawatu High School Theatresports competition for the first time this year. The event included us travelling to Palmerston North for two training bootcamps, a zoom one-on-one training session, a banner creation, an entrance creation, a showcase and a final.
We went up against nine other schools from the Manawatu region. We played three theatresports games each in the final. The event was amazing, to get together with over 50 other like-minded students who were willing to give things a go and make up theatre on the spot was a highlight.
Our team consisted of: Sophie Nichol, Lucy Simpson, Eva Warr, Anabelle McGregor, Eliza Woods, and our team captain - Edie Croad.
We learnt so much throughout our journey. An absolute highlight was taking out the School Spirit award which we all got medals for, for our energy and enthusiasm to the bootcamps, the banner creation, the school entrance and working with the other teams. It is something we would love to build here and return to the competition again next year.
Youthfest
We are looking forward to taking our team to the Manawatu to perform Water, Please. Look out for a bake sale next week as we aim to raise funds for our upcoming trip!

Duke of Edinburgh Award
It is exciting to see so many of our Year 13 students having their Duke of Edinburgh Awards signed off this year. These achievements, across Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, recognise their commitment to service, physical recreation, learning new skills, and engaging in the outdoors. Each of these qualities gives our Duke of Ed participants a genuine point of difference and highlights the value of the informal qualifications we offer our students to set them apart. Well done to all those who have achieved their awards.
Looking ahead, our next tramp will be the Silver and Gold expedition to Lake Waikaremoana 12–14 September. This trip is always a highlight of the programme, with the stunning setting making it a memorable experience for all involved.
We also have the Qualifying Bronze Award Tramps coming up on 8 - 9 November or 22 - 23 November. Award participants can choose which date suits them best.
