Kia ora whānau,
Over the weekend, we had the pleasure of welcoming a group of Hewett House Old Girls back to the hostel. It was wonderful to have them visit, reminisce about their boarding days and see how much Hewett House has changed over the years. They were incredibly complimentary about the improvements and developments that have taken place since their time here. It is always special to reconnect with our past boarders and hear the memories and stories that make Hewett House such a special place.
A reminder to our senior whānau to please complete the NCEA Study Leave Google Form using this link. This information is essential so we can plan accordingly and ensure we know your daughter's whereabouts and arrangements throughout the study leave period. We would really appreciate everyone completing this as soon as possible.
Wishing you all a fabulous weekend. Enjoy some quality time with whānau, and hopefully a little sunshine too!
Ngā mihi nui,
Joyce Clark

By the last week of Term 4, families must email the Hostel Manager hostelmanager@nghs.school.nz confirming whether their daughter will be a 5-day or 7-day boarder for the following year.
• 7-Day Boarding: Once a student has elected to be a 7-day boarder, this arrangement will remain in place for the full year and cannot be changed to 5-day.
• 5-Day Boarding: Students who are 5-day boarders may request to move to 7-day boarding at any time from Term 1, however, they cannot revert back to 5-day within that same calendar year.
• Extra Nights: The "extra nights" option remains available for 5-day boarders who need short-term accommodation for special events or commitments.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure fairness and clarity for all our boarding families.
This year as a fundraiser for the Hewett House Hostel Young Farmers Club we are making a 2027 calendar. There has been a competition between the girls to pick the best photos to go in the calendar. There are only 70 calendars made to be bought so get in fast. Each calendar costs $25.
Please order off your Young Farmer representative or directly using these details:

Kia ora koutou,
It has been lovely to welcome everyone back to the hostel, refreshed and rested after the holidays. The next few weeks are an important time for our senior boarders as they focus on revision and preparation for external exams. Those working on portfolio-based subjects are in their final burst of effort to complete and submit their work on time. We encourage all our rangatahi to make the most of this valuable time. It is important that they ask questions, seek clarification, and fully engage in the revision sessions and tutorials on offer at school, and evening prep sessions in the hostel. Every bit of focused study now makes a difference later.
This part of the term is also filled with special celebrations that recognise the hard mahi and achievements of our students. Last week, we enjoyed both our vibrant Fiafia Night and the Pūhoro STEMM Academy graduation. We look forward to our Pō Whakanui, celebrating the successes of our Māori ākonga, especially our school leavers, as well as our Bars and Badges Assembly, where we acknowledge participation and achievement across a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
It’s a busy but exciting time in the hostel as we support our seniors through their final assessments and exams, while our junior boarders continue to show great energy and focus.
As always, please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s academic progress.
Ngā mihi,
Mrs Caroline Johnson
Hostel Academic Dean
As our Year 13s get closer to study leave, we’ve been enjoying some final events together, including the annual Scinde vs Hewett netball game for the cone. Unfortunately, Scinde took the win this year!
On Tuesday evening, we have our formal dinner with Scinde, marking our last event together. It will be a lovely evening, although a little sad knowing it’s our final one.
A reminder to all seniors to stay on top of their work and keep pushing through these final weeks. You’re so close to the finish line!
It’s also been lovely to see the juniors getting back into the swing of things and the warmer weather starting to arrive.
Have a lovely Labour Weekend, everyone!
Nga mihi,

Monday 26 October: Hostel opens from 3pm
Thursday 5 November: Seniors on study leave from lunchtime
7-day Boarders
For planning purposes, it is very helpful if our 7-day boarders can let us know by 9.00am each Thursday if they will be away for the weekend. This greatly assists our kitchen team with accurate meal planning and helps us avoid unnecessary food preparation and wastage.
Special Dietary Students
Please remember that if you have listed yourself as a special dietary requirement you are expected to honour this and not change your mind as something else appeals, the kitchen staff go to considerable effort to cater for your needs.
