Kia ora whānau,
As we move through another busy and exciting term at Hewett House, it is wonderful to see the girls embracing the many opportunities that boarding life provides.
Winter sports are now well underway, and with practices, games, and weekend fixtures keeping many of our girls busy, there is certainly plenty happening both on and off the sports field. We wish all our teams the very best for their upcoming competitions.
As we have recently completed our 2027 enrolment interviews, if you have a younger daughter hoping to board at Hewett House in 2027 and believe we may have missed her during this enrolment round, please let us know as soon as possible.
A reminder that notice for students not returning to Hewett House in 2027 should be provided by the first week of Term 4. While this is the official deadline, it is extremely helpful for our planning if families can advise us earlier whenever possible. Early notification allows us to offer boarding opportunities to other families currently waiting for a place.
We would also like to remind families that if students are leaving school during the school day for appointments or any other reason, the school's absentee line must be notified. This is an important safety measure that ensures the school can accurately account for all students throughout the day.
Please note that Monday 15 June is a Learning From Home Day due to Senior Parent-Teacher Interviews. Students remaining at the hostel will attend supervised study sessions at school from 9.00am until 12.00pm. Following this, they will have the afternoon free to enjoy some downtime, catch up with friends, or get out and about.
As the colder weather settles in, we are beginning to see an increase in seasonal illnesses. We kindly ask whānau to please keep your daughter at home if she is unwell before returning to the hostel. This helps reduce the spread of viruses and supports the health and wellbeing of everyone in our boarding community.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Hewett House. We look forward to another successful and enjoyable week ahead.
Ngā mihi nui,
Joyce Clark

Kia ora koutou.
It was fantastic to see so many of our Junior Hostel students participating in the Junior Quiz at Napier Boys’ High School on Wednesday evening. A fun and engaging night was had by everyone who attended.
Term 2 Reports for senior students were issued this week. All reports and results are available via the Parent Portal (SchoolBridge). Links to the portal have also been emailed to whānau. Please ensure your current email address is kept up-to-date with the school office so you don't miss these important updates.
Senior Parent-Teacher Interviews are scheduled for Monday, 15 June. All booking information has been emailed to you. Please note that Monday, 15 June will be a Learning from Home Day for all ākonga. I will be in the library to supervise any hostel students from 9am-12pm. Junior students will have work set in Google Classroom or from their previous lessons to complete at home. Senior students should use the day to work independently on their assessments.
If you have any concerns or questions raised by your child’s report, please feel free to contact me or the appropriate year-level dean.
Ngā mihi

Kia ora tātou.
It feels like everyone is settling into the rhythm of hostel life as the term rolls on, and it's been great to see girls getting involved in different activities and making the most of the opportunities around them.
The Newspaper Challenge was a hit last week, with lots of creative ideas, teamwork, and a few interesting designs making an appearance. Thank you to everyone who got involved and helped make it such a fun event. Well done to red house for taking out top place with the minions idea!
A quick reminder to make sure your name is on any taxi or van lists at the start of the day if you need transport. It makes things much easier to organise and helps avoid any confusion later on.

What a great term it has been and as the holidays creep closer a few girls and I are heading up to Tauranga in Week 11 to perform in Ngā Kapa Haka Kura Tuarua o Aotearoa (Secondary Kapa Haka Nationals). We have been extra busy in preparation for this competition, and there has been a lot of behind the scene work with running fundraisers, in school as well as after school trainings, meetings and organising the logistics of our trip. It has been awesome slowly watching all the hard work turn into a performance and even more amazing knowing that a few other hostel girls will be experiencing this opportunity alongside me. With that being said, our hostel kāhui has been really helpful with providing ideas to go toward upcoming kaupapa and their commitment to learn songs in their free time has been really heartwarming to see. Can’t wait to see what Term 3 holds!
Ngā mihi nui.

Netball Season
If you or someone else is collecting your daughter from the netball courts on Saturday, please email the hostel office no later than midday on Thursday so we can arrange the transport. Ngā mihi.
7-day Boarders
For planning purposes, it is very helpful if our 7-day boarders can let us know by 9.00am each Thursday if they will be away for the weekend. This greatly assists our kitchen team with accurate meal planning and helps us avoid unnecessary food preparation and wastage.
Kindo Reminder
Please make sure you've logged into Kindo to pay for your daughter's school-related charges such as sports fees, music tuition and other activities.
Contact hostelfinance@nghs.school.nz if you have any questions regarding your hostel account.
Sickness
If you're feeling unwell or showing any signs of illness, please stay home and take the time you need to recover. Your health and the health of others comes first.
Sunday Late Dinners
If you require a late/saved dinner on a Sunday night this MUST be booked by 12.00pm on the Sunday by putting your name on the list at the office - preferably before you leave on Friday afternoon. If you have not booked a late/saved dinner you will have toast and spreads made available to you. We hope you can appreciate that our kitchen team need to be able to plan for accurate numbers. It is very difficult for them when suddenly they need to find 15 – 20 extra servings.
Special Dietary Students
Please remember that if you have listed yourself as a special dietary requirement you are expected to honour this and not change your mind as something else appeals, the kitchen staff go to considerable effort to cater for your needs.
