Kia ora whānau,
As we head into the final week of Term 2, there continues to be plenty happening around Hewett House.
Last week brought lots of laughter and friendly competition as we celebrated International Juggling Day with our very own juggling competition. While some girls clearly had hidden talents, others discovered that juggling is much harder than it looks! It was wonderful to see so many students getting involved, having fun, and enjoying the opportunity to try something new.
On Thursday we had a fun movie night, which provided a chance for the girls to relax and unwind as the busy term draws to a close.
Next week we will come together to celebrate Matariki with a special hostel dinner. Matariki is an important time to reflect on the past year, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future. We look forward to sharing this occasion together as a boarding community.
We would also like to wish our Kapa Haka rangatahi all the very best as they travel to Tauranga on Sunday to compete at the National Kapa Haka Championships. We are incredibly proud of the commitment, dedication, and countless hours of practice that have gone into preparing for this event. We know you will represent your school, whānau, and Hewett House with pride, and we look forward to hearing all about your experience when you return.
Ngā mihi nui,
Joyce Clark

Kia ora koutou.
As we come to the end of another busy and successful term, I would like to thank our hostel students, staff, and whānau for their ongoing support and commitment to our community.
Shortly, our Year 9 students will receive their Term 2 Rotation Reports for Arts, Languages, and Technology. These reports will be available to view through SchoolBridge.
Looking ahead to Term 3, junior students will receive their full academic reports, including teacher comments, in Week 4. Parent-teacher interviews for junior students will be held online on 19 August, providing an opportunity to discuss your daughter’s learning progress and next steps for the remainder of the year.
For our senior students, Derived Grade Examinations will take place from 20–28 August. These assessments are an important part of the academic year, providing valuable preparation for NCEA external examinations. Derived grades are also used for the students' final NCEA results if unforeseen circumstances prevent them from attending the end-of-year examinations.
As we head into the holiday break, I encourage all students to take time to rest, recharge, and enjoy the opportunity to connect with whānau and friends. The holidays are an important chance to reflect on the term's achievements and return refreshed for the challenges and opportunities that Term 3 will bring.
I wish all our ākonga a safe, happy, and restful holiday break and look forward to welcoming everyone back next term.
Ngā mihi
Mrs Caroline Johnson
Hostel Academic Dean
Kia ora.
As we head into the final weeks of Term 2, I would like to congratulate everyone on their hard work, commitment, and positive attitude throughout the term. It has been fantastic to see so many girls getting involved in hostel activities and making the most of the opportunities available.
Last week, we introduced a brand-new hostel tradition - our very first Juggling Competition! It was wonderful to see so many students giving it a go and showing off their skills. A huge congratulations goes to Keira-Lee Bouskill, who was crowned our Best Juggler. Awesome work, Keira-Lee!
We also held our annual Newspaper Challenge, and it was fantastic to see the creativity, teamwork, and effort put into each entry. The competition produced some incredible designs and plenty of laughs. Congratulations to Red House, whose impressive Minions-themed costumes earned them the winning title this year. Photos can be found on the Hewett House facebook page
As we approach the end of the term, take a moment to be proud of everything you have achieved so far. We are nearly at the finish line for Term 2!
Finally, I would like to wish all our senior students the very best of luck for their upcoming internals. Your hard work and preparation will pay off, and we know you will do your best.
Enjoy the final weeks of term, keep supporting one another, and finish strong!

7-day Boarders
For planning purposes, it is very helpful if our 7-day boarders can let us know by 9.00am each Thursday if they will be away for the weekend. This greatly assists our kitchen team with accurate meal planning and helps us avoid unnecessary food preparation and wastage.
Kindo Reminder
Please make sure you've logged into Kindo to pay for your daughter's school-related charges such as sports fees, music tuition and other activities.
Contact hostelfinance@nghs.school.nz if you have any questions regarding your hostel account.
Sickness
If you're feeling unwell or showing any signs of illness, please stay home and take the time you need to recover. Your health and the health of others comes first.
Sunday Late Dinners
If you require a late/saved dinner on a Sunday night this MUST be booked by 12.00pm on the Sunday by putting your name on the list at the office - preferably before you leave on Friday afternoon. If you have not booked a late/saved dinner you will have toast and spreads made available to you. We hope you can appreciate that our kitchen team need to be able to plan for accurate numbers. It is very difficult for them when suddenly they need to find 15 – 20 extra servings.
Special Dietary Students
Please remember that if you have listed yourself as a special dietary requirement you are expected to honour this and not change your mind as something else appeals, the kitchen staff go to considerable effort to cater for your needs.
