Kia ora whānau,
It’s been a fantastic first term here at Hewett House.
We enjoyed our annual Hewett House Open Day today, where girls on the 2027 waitlist were invited to tour both the school and hostel. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our community and give prospective students a glimpse into life at Hewett House.
We are also just about to finish interviews for our 2027 Year 9 intake. If you have a sibling who should be on the waitlist but has not yet had an interview, please contact us as soon as possible.
As the term comes to a close, we wish all our whānau a lovely Easter filled with rest, connection, and time together. We hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved break and returns refreshed and ready for all that Term 2 will bring.
Next term promises plenty of excitement, including heading along to support our rangatahi in the Napier Girls’ and Napier Boys' production of "High School Musical" as well as the start of the Winter sports season.
We always value your input and support - whether you're a parent, guardian, or friend of our boarding community. If you have any concerns, feedback, or would just like to drop by for a visit, please don’t hesitate to call, email, or pop in. We’d love to hear from you.
Ngā mihi nui,
Joyce Clark

Being away from your rangatahi can be challenging in many different ways. To help our whānau stay connected and informed about what is happening at school, we offer a range of online applications and communication channels.
Caregivers have access to a wide range of information through the SchoolBridge app. This platform brings together key functions such as permission slips, subject selection, booking parent-teacher interviews, and reporting absences. SchoolBridge also provides easy access to the Kamar Portal, where you can check results and view past reports. If you haven’t yet downloaded the app, you can find the instructions here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/10SrA50GPWnxmoBNHfjiLyVzTTG-zi6u4ACkxdq4wZPo/edit?usp=sharing
In addition to this newsletter and the school newsletter, both sent out fortnightly in alternating weeks, you can also keep up to date with school life through our social media channels. We regularly share news, updates, and photos on our official school Facebook and Instagram pages, and the hostel also has its own Facebook page.
At the end of this term, your rangatahi will receive their first progress report for the year. This report focuses on three of the Key Competencies from the New Zealand Curriculum: Managing Self, Relating to Others, and Participating and Contributing. It will also indicate whether your daughter is working at, or towards, the appropriate curriculum level for her ability. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about this report.
Looking ahead to Term 2, parent-teacher interviews for junior students will take place in Week 3. Senior students will receive full reports (including teacher comments), while junior students will receive their full reports early in Term 3. Each of these reporting points is followed by further opportunities for parent-teacher interviews. Whānau can choose to meet teachers either online or in person, which we hope makes it easier for hostel families who may be further away.
If you have any academic concerns or queries, please feel free to contact me at cjohnson@nghs.school.nz
I wish all our ākonga a happy and restful holiday break, with plenty of time to connect with whānau and recharge for the term ahead.

Kia ora whānau.
It’s been a busy and exciting time here at the hostel as we move toward the end of Term 1. The weeks have flown by, and it’s hard to believe that the holidays and Easter break are just around the corner!
Netball trials are currently underway, and there’s a great buzz of energy and determination among the girls. We wish everyone the very best of luck and commend you all for your effort, teamwork, and positive attitude out on the court.
We also had our Junior Social this week, which was a fantastic event full of fun and laughter. It’s always wonderful to see everyone coming together and enjoying these special moments.
As we near the end of the term, we encourage everyone to keep focused and finish strong. With holidays fast approaching, we look forward to a well-earned break, time to relax, and the celebrations that come with Easter.
Wishing everyone a happy and successful end to the term!
- Rose Greaves & Lucy Parker

For planning purposes, it is very helpful if our 7-day boarders can let us know by 9.00am each Thursday if they will be away for the weekend. This greatly assists our kitchen team with accurate meal planning and helps us avoid unnecessary food preparation and wastage.
Kindo Reminder
Please make sure you've logged into Kindo to pay for your daughter's school-related charges such as sports fees, music tuition and other activities.
Contact hostelfinance@nghs.school.nz if you have any questions regarding your hostel account.
Sickness
If you're feeling unwell or showing any signs of illness, please stay home and take the time you need to recover. Your health and the health of others comes first.
Sunday Late Dinners
If you require a late/saved dinner on a Sunday night this MUST be booked by 12.00pm on the Sunday by putting your name on the list at the office - preferably before you leave on Friday afternoon. If you have not booked a late/saved dinner you will have toast and spreads made available to you. We hope you can appreciate that our kitchen team need to be able to plan for accurate numbers. It is very difficult for them when suddenly they need to find 15 – 20 extra servings.
Special Dietary Students
Please remember that if you have listed yourself as a special dietary requirement you are expected to honour this and not change your mind as something else appeals, the kitchen staff go to considerable effort to cater for your needs.
Thursday 2 April: end of Term 1, hostel closes at 6pm
