Kia ora koutou,
Weekends at Hewett House are all about finding time to relax, connect, and try something a little different. We are excited to be introducing a Craft Trolley that the girls will be able to use during weekend downtime.
The trolley will be filled with a variety of creative activities such as colouring, puzzles, simple crafts and other hands-on projects that the girls can enjoy together.
We are also hoping to introduce some beginner knitting sessions. Knitting is a wonderful way to relax, learn a new skill, and spend time chatting with friends — we think it could become a lovely weekend tradition.
If you happen to have any spare wool or knitting needles at home, we would be very happy to give them a new home at Hewett House. Donations can be sent in with your daughter or dropped into the hostel anytime.
At Hewett House, our phone is monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so please never hesitate to call, check in, or reach out with any questions or concerns. We value strong connections with whānau and look forward to working alongside you to support your rangatahi throughout their boarding journey.
Ngā mihi nui,
Joyce Clark

It was wonderful to meet with some of our Year 9 hostel whānau at last week’s Whānau Evening.
For our senior students, some subjects have had their first internal assessments for the year. If students are finding any subjects challenging, we encourage them to speak with their classroom teacher in the first instance so they can receive guidance and support.
A reminder that we are fortunate to have Miss Buchanan available for Maths tutoring during Prep on Thursday evenings. She also teaches Chemistry, a fantastic resource for students who may need support in either of these areas.
Students can also access additional academic support at school through the following opportunities:
Science Support Club – Tuesdays at lunchtime in the library (Year 13 students assisting with Science learning)
English Support – Thursdays at lunchtime in W8
Homework Club – Wednesdays at lunchtime in the library (run by the Academic Prefects and open to support across all subjects)
On Tuesday 17 March, we will be holding an NCEA Information Evening for the whānau of all Year 10 and 11 students from 5.30–6.30pm in the school library. We understand that it can be difficult for some hostel parents to attend in person, so the event will also be livestreamed via the school’s Facebook page.
If you have any academic concerns or queries, please feel free to contact me at cjohnson@nghs.school.nz

Kia ora students and whānau.
As we move further into the term, hostel life is buzzing with activity. Winter sports trials are kicking off, and many students have been busy attending trials while also keeping up with their summer sports commitments. It’s a busy time for everyone, especially as assessments are beginning to come around as well.
Despite the full schedules, it has been great to see so many students getting involved and making the most of hostel life. Whether it’s heading out to trainings and trials, supporting friends, or balancing schoolwork with sport, the energy and enthusiasm around the hostel has been awesome to see.
It’s a great reminder of how active and supportive our hostel community is, and we’re looking forward to seeing what everyone achieves this term!

Hello everyone!
I hope the term is going well for all. Life in Hewett House has been busy and positive over the past few weeks, and sports trials are well underway as students prepare for the upcoming winter season.
It has been great to see how well the Year 9 students have settled into hostel life. They are already forming strong friendships and bringing lots of energy and enthusiasm around the house.
We are also looking forward to Athletics at the end of this week, which is always an exciting event on the school calendar. We encourage everyone to wear their house colours proudly and to participate in as many events as possible.
As we move closer to the end of the term, we would like to remind everyone to stay focused on any upcoming internal assessments and continue working hard. Keep motivated as we head toward a well-earned holiday break. All the best.
Year 9 - Mabel Heath & Lily Ashton
Year 10 - Charlie Kelleher & Stevie Schaw
Year 11 - Bella Derbie & Evelyn Ferguson

If you have any ideas, please send them on to these girls.
Sea Cadets is a training programme of the New Zealand Cadet Forces for young people. There are a bunch of fun activities and camps that you can go to and gain practical life skills that you can take into your future. There are leadership courses which allow you to move through the ranks. There are unit competitions and camps to test and improve on the skills you’ve learnt and are a lot of fun!
These competitions, along with the leadership courses and camps can help you to gain confidence in team environments and responsibility with leading a team. They are experiences that enforce the NZ Cadet Forces values: Courage, commitment, comradeship, and integrity. Not only do you have the opportunity to participate in these courses, but you also have an important role in strengthening the community. Cadets take part in ceremonies like ANZAC Day and events like Art Deco.
We meet every Tuesday night at the Army Drill Hall at the bottom of Coote Road.
If you are interested you can either see Emma in hostel or look at the following website: www.tsahuriri.com

Sunday Late Dinners
If you require a late/saved dinner on a Sunday night this MUST be booked by 12.00pm on the Sunday by putting your name on the list at the office - preferably before you leave on Friday afternoon. If you have not booked a late/saved dinner you will have toast and spreads made available to you. We hope you can appreciate that our kitchen team need to be able to plan for accurate numbers. It is very difficult for them when suddenly they need to find 15 – 20 extra servings.
Special Dietary Students
Please remember that if you have listed yourself as a special dietary requirement you are expected to honour this and not change your mind as something else appeals, the kitchen staff go to considerable effort to cater for your needs.
