Kia ora e te whānau
As we come to the end of another busy term, I want to take a moment to wish our rangatahi a restful holiday break. We hope your time with family is filled with laughter, connection, and a well-deserved chance to recharge.
Next term we will be going to see the production Footloose. This is a show performed by Napier Boys' High School and Napier Girls' High School. This is an all of hostel event - the only boarders not going will be those with a prior sporting commitment.
Monday 23 June (following Matariki Exeat weekend) is a distance learning day as senior parent interviews are this day. Any Hostel ākonga in will be studying in the school library until 3pm.
Take care, travel safely, and enjoy every moment of the break.
Ngā mihi nui,
Joyce Clark

Term 2 Reports for senior students will be issued this week. These provide feedback on the Key Competencies of: Managing Self; Relating to Others; and Participating and Contributing. The student’s standard of work is reported on, with all results for the year to date included. Teachers also provide individual comments in this report, with feed-forward and next steps for the year. (Junior students receive this type of report in early Term 3).
Parent-Teacher Interviews - Monday 23 June, 2025
We will offer a mix of online interviews via the Google Meet platform (from 10.00am - 2.00pm) and in-person interviews (from 3.00pm - 6.30pm). Some Hostel parents who live far from school find the online option very useful. Monday is a Distance Learning Day for our ākonga, so if you would like a kanohi ki te kanohi (face-to-face) interview, you can schedule one for the afternoon, and return your rangatahi to the Hostel at the same time! On this day, junior students will have work set in Google Classroom or the previous lesson to work on at home. Seniors have the day to work independently on their internals.
All reports and results are available via the Parent Portal https://nghs.bridge.school.nz/ Links to the portal are also emailed to all whānau, so please be sure to keep your current email address updated at the school office.
If you have any concerns or questions raised by your child’s report, please contact me or the appropriate year-level dean.
Ngā mihi

Kia ora.
This term has flown by! It's safe to say the hostel has been as busy as ever.
On a sporting front it's been great to see so many boarders involved in Winter sports this term. With a range of sports being played during the week like netball, hockey and rugby it sure makes for some quiet dinners with so many out! Many of us have got amongst it culturally too, congratulations to those involved in the Big Sing contest and the awards you came away with.
It's great to see rangatahi getting involved in these activities, it really highlights the hostel spirit. As the term begins to draw to a close, our advice to everyone next term would be to get involved! Participating in events is an awesome way to connect with more people and have a bit of fun away from kura and academics.
On Tuesday morning the Year 13s enjoyed a Hawke's Bay Boarders' Breakfast hosted by Napier Boys'. This was a great opportunity to connect with other boarders and hear from guest speaker Harry Averill an ex NBHS hostel student. Harry struggled with an eating disorder during his teenage years, but also spoke to us on his commitment to recovery. He also spoke about his transition from school boarding to hostel which was an inspirational discussion, valuable for our Year 13s to be a part of.
We look forward to a few school exchanges in the final week. Firstly the exchange with Palmerston North Girls' High School on Wednesday and the Cultural exchange with Napier Boys' following after. Good luck to all those competing!
We hope you are all looking forward to a well deserved break!
- Chimari, Kaela and Georgia
A Quick Reminder
If you're feeling unwell or showing any signs of illness, please stay home and take the time you need to recover. Your health — and the health of others — comes first.
Boarding Finances
Please contact hostelfinance@nghs.school.nz if you have any questions regarding your hostel account.
Change to 5 / 7 Day Status
If your daughter is wanting to change her boarding status ie to 5 day or 7 day this needs to come to the Hostel Manager in writing please.
Sunday Late Dinners
If you require a late/saved dinner on a Sunday night this MUST be booked by 12.00pm on the Sunday by putting your name on the list at the office preferably before you leave on Friday afternoon. If you have not booked a late/saved dinner you will be able to have toast and spreads. We hope you can appreciate that our kitchen team need to be able to plan for accurate numbers. It is very difficult for them when suddenly they need to find 15 – 20 extra servings. Thanks for your support with this.
Special Dietary Students
Please remember that if you have listed yourself as a special dietary requirement you are expected to honour this and not change your mind as something else appeals, the kitchen staff are going to considerable effort to cater for your needs. Once again, thank you for your support.
Congratulations to the following ākonga:
