Nau mai haere mai.
It has been a pleasure getting to know you and reconnecting with your daughters over the past 10 weeks. I can’t quite believe it is the end of the term - it has gone so quickly. Please let me know if you wish your daughter's boarding status to change for Term 2.
Last Friday we had our Hostel Open Day. We have received some lovely feedback about how outstanding our boarders were as tour guides. As a way to celebrate everyone for making the hostel shine, Mr Whippy visited last night as an end of term treat.
Today we sadly farewell Ms Heidi Chesterman and wish her well with her teacher training. At the beginning of next term, we will all welcome to Hewett House, Mrs Hayley Berriman.
I hope you have a fantastic holiday break with your lovely young ladies, don’t eat too many Easter eggs and I look forward to continuing our journey in Term 2.
Ngā mihi nui,
Joyce Clark
The Easter bunnies have arrived early!

Kia ora everyone. My name is Hayley Berriman and I am excited to be joining the Hewett House whānau at the beginning of next term.
Having many fond memories as an Old Girl of NGHS, I feel very passionate to be part of the team, supporting your daughters as they navigate their path through high school.
As a mother of four, I know the importance of feeling reassured that our children’s holistic wellbeing is being taken care of while they are living away from home.
I have worked in the healthcare sector as a Diversional Therapist for over 11 years, supporting and encouraging people to live their best lives. I'm eager to use my skills and knowledge to inspire and motivate your rangatahi to do the same.
I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone and getting to know you all personally. - Hayley
On Tuesday 7 April we were fortunate enough to have Gary Brady from Pāmu to come and talk to us about career paths in the Agriculture sector. Pāmu is an organisation that offers a farming apprenticeship course to any young, keen learners. I found the talk very interesting and so did many other students. I thoroughly enjoyed discussing the potential future career paths. On behalf of the school I would like to thank Gary for taking the time out of his day to come and expose us to a different aspect of farming. I believe it's a great way for young girls to fulfil their journey in Agriculture! - Emma McLachlan
Your rangatahi will receive their first progress report for the year this term. It reports on three of the Key Competencies which are capabilities for lifelong learning outlined in the NZ Curriculum: Managing Self; Relating to Others; and Participating and Contributing. Whether your daughter is working at or towards the appropriate curriculum level for their ability will also be indicated. Please feel free to contact me if this report raises any concerns.
In Term 2, Parent-Teacher interviews take place for Juniors in Week 3. Full reports (with teacher comments) are issued for Seniors, and a full report for Juniors is issued near the beginning of Term 3. Each of these full reports is followed by additional Parent-Teacher Interviews. Whānau can choose between an online or face-to-face interview with your daughter’s teachers, which is helpful for hostel parents for whom distance from school may be a challenge. At any time you can also check your daughter's results online via the Parent Portal and Schoolbridge App.
I wish all our ākonga a happy and relaxing holiday break, with time to spend with whānau, to recharge their batteries for the term ahead.
- Ms Amanda Johnson (Mandy)
Kia ora. What a fantastic term we’ve had!
A highlight of the past week was meeting the Year 8s at the Hostel Open Day last Friday. It was great being able to show off our beautiful hostel. The hostel has been busy as always, with the Young Farmers' Club having a successful quiz night as well as a meeting held for Hostel Kāhui.
We’ve been spoiled with many treats, which is helpful to keep us all motivated for the end of term. The Year 9s and 13s enjoyed some Just Dance followed by hot chocolates on Monday night. This was a great chance to connect with their buddies and celebrate the end of Term 1. With Easter on the way, the Easter bunnies paid an early visit to all the girls with some festivities. We also had a visit from Mr Whippy on Thursday night, yum!
With winter sports coming up I’m sure all the boarders will be busy next term so make sure to have a big rest over the holidays. We look forward to bringing some new house events to life next term to foster a fun and connected environment in the hostel. Stay tuned.
Enjoy the break!
