This is what our students had to say about the benefits of learning a second language.
Dear Parents,
¡Hola!
During the first weeks of classes, your child will be reviewing this and many Spanish expressions we've learned in previous school years. Students in grades K and 2 will have World language class twice a week during our first semester (two quarters) this school year. Students in grades 3-6 will have World language class during the second semester of school. All classes will learn how to manipulate their environment through TPR (Total Physical Response or Hands on Learning). They will learn different commands as they review basic information, and enlarge their vocabulary. Their goal is to become proficient in the target language (Reading; writing; speaking).
Your child will delight in sharing his or her new knowledge with you, so feel free to ask frequently what new words, stories, and songs he or she has learned.
When your child has learned a new song or story in Spanish/French, ask her or him to teach it to you.
Above all, remember that praise, patience, and practice are crucial to learning. Do not pressure your child but do reward his or her attempts to speak Spanish/French with ample praise.
I will keep you informed on our classroom activities throughout the semesters. Until then,
¡Hasta luego!
Sincerely,
Lidia Saldanha
