From our Head of Secondary

As always I am proud to be part of such a wonderful community, each person with their own unique talents to share. I am still in awe of the performance of our swimmers in the FINA World Cup last weekend. To see Nexus swimmers being called to the starting blocks to be introduced alongside current World Champions was quite an emotional experience for many of us. And to witness so many personal bests being achieved as well as places in the finals being secured, it was a truly breathtaking event to behold. All that hard work day-in and day-out at the Nexus pool paid real dividends and the whole team alongside coaches Ivan, Adrian and Larisa should be hugely congratulated. Please read more here.

The opening of the IN Art Exhibition at the Australian High Commission was a fabulous occasion. Artists from several international schools in Singapore were selected to showcase their work and the result was outstanding! I am pleased to say the Exhibition will be open over the Christmas holiday and visitors only need to show your ID card to gain access; I cannot recommend it highly enough! Congratulations to Ms Soards and the whole Art team for their amazing work, both with the learners and also in curating and preparing such a professional and large-scale exhibition.

Back on campus the Careers Wheel Expo last Wednesday was an excellent event. Conceived and designed by our learners in response to their own needs, around 25 professionals, many of them our very own parents, made themselves available to learners in a market place format. All Secondary learners visited in year groups to quiz the professionals on their lines of work and how they got to their current positions. As a school we are truly grateful to all those who supported this event and made our first Expo such a success - we do not underestimate how precious your time is. Please read more here.

Last week, the Senior Leadership Team were able to enter right into the superstructure of the new building in Aljunied for the first time and it was a truly jaw-dropping experience for all of us. The building may look big from the PIE when you drive past but when you stand on each layer it is truly breathtaking! We were trying to envisage where each specialist space would be amongst the concrete beams and pillars, and what the final teaching and learning environment might look like. It was amazing to watch 300+ people hard at work in all areas, from tiling the restrooms on the lower floors to installing the roof on the twelfth floor!

The Christmas holiday seems to be coming very quickly this year! There is still much work to do in the classrooms over the next two weeks as the term comes to an end. However, there are also many festivities to look forward to, especially in the last week of term - we have the Christmas Fair and Concerts on Wednesday 12th December and I have no doubt that many of you will already have that as a date in your diaries!

We look forward to welcoming Year 9 and Year 11 parents and learners and guardians to the IGCSE and IB Options evening on Wednesday 5 December.

Have a good weekend,

Peter Hart, Head of Secondary School
