Criterion A: Investigating
Students:
define a clear and highly challenging goal to address a need within a community, based on personal interests
identify prior learning and subject-specific knowledge that is consistently highly relevant to the project
demonstrate excellent research skills.
What are the goals of the community project?
Develop deeper UNDERSTANDING of a community problem through an IN-DEPTH investigation
Develop SKILLS, ATTITUDES, and KNOWLEDGE required to complete a project over an extended period of time.
Demonstrate RESPONSIBLE ACTION through learning
Examples of these could be you undertaking any of the following:
raising awareness on an issue
participating actively to make a difference
undertaking research to help solve an issue
coming up with a creative/innovative solution to an issue
change behaviours in others
advocating about an issue
What are the types of action I can do for the community project?
Direct
Interaction that involves people, the environment or animals.
Indirect
Students might not see the recipients, but they have verified that their actions will benefit the community or environment.
Research
Students collect information, analyze data, and report on a topic in order to create change.
Advocacy
speak on behalf of a cause to promote action on an issue of public interest.
