Duke of Edinburgh's International Award - Practice Hike 26th November 2020

Our 41 Year 9 participants took part in a practice hike after school last Thursday, walking approximately 12 kilometres in small groups and taking between two and three hours to complete the short, introductory route.

For many, this was their first visit to MacRitchie Reservoir and the dense jungle areas Around Bukit Timah and Rifle Range road. Some spotted a wild boar and the monkeys were curious as we invaded their territory. Working uniquely in their groups of five, learners got to know each others' strengths and weakness, successfully navigated and completed the route, finishing at Caldecott MRT before returning home for a well earned dinner and shower!

By now, participants should have registered and be tracking their progress in at least two of the three sections: Skill, Physical Recreation and Voluntary Service. They can check in with their Award Leader who can offer advice on activity choices, as well as help ensure that they are recording their logs correctly. We will be in contact regarding the plans for the Practice and Qualifying Adventurous Journeys and Camps once these can be confirmed as the COVID-19 restrictions on activities are eased.

Christmas Pop-Up Stall: SCRAPCAP

A Year 12 Junior Achievement Initiative.

Earlier this week, on Days 2 & 3 of our #NexusChristmas Advent Calendar, our Year 12s organised their very own #ScrapCap pop-up shop where they sell repurposed caps made from old Nexus uniforms!

Please read their update here. They are also currently running low on old Nexus uniforms (due to high demand - a good thing!) and so would love your support if you can donated any unwanted Nexus school uniforms at Learner Services.

Movember!

As part of MOVEMBER, a movement that aims to save and improve men's lives through projects focused on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention, some of our Nexus teachers have joined in by growing their moustache to raise awareness around men's health.

Last year we raised over $3,500 and this year, we almost doubled the amount with a total of $6,048, with Team NISSMo sitting at #8 on Singapore’s team leaderboard.

Huge shout out goes to Mr Aaron and his team of Primary learners ‘GirlPower@Nexus’ in Years 5 and 6 who collected before school last week and this week. A big thank you, too to everyone who has joined or supported us in this meaningful (albeit hairy) cause!
