Dear Parents and Caregivers
Term 4 is well underway now and our learners are fully immersed in their learning. It is also the time of year when we begin to review and reflect on the year, and how we are honouring our vision and values.
Our vision statement is:
To educate the youth of the world to take their productive place as leaders in the global community.
To prepare our learners to be part of the global community we use the IB Learner Profile to support our learner's ideas around Global Citizenship and develop their international mindedness. Global citizenship refers to the idea that individuals have a sense of belonging to a wider community beyond their national borders and have a shared responsibility towards the planet and its inhabitants.
Global Citizenship is an underpinning philosophy of the IB PYP Framework. It is important because it promotes cross-cultural understanding, fosters social responsibility, addresses global challenges, empowers learners, and enhances personal growth. By embracing global citizenship, learners can work towards creating a more just, sustainable, and peaceful world. Establishing the idea of being a Global Citizen can start with even our youngest learners. Take a look at our News from the Year Groups tab to understand more about how we nurture Global Citizenship thought our Units of Inquiry.
This week saw us celebrate Green Innovation Week. In assembly we celebrated our Trashion Hats, focussed on some Green Innovation ideas and linked these to the Global Goals and Care Movement. For our Primary learners we define Green Innovation as...
A new idea, device or way to do something - that reduces harm to our planet.
We shared some interesting green innovations like the Socket Ball and salt water lamps and we revisited our Nexus Junior Achievement Award ideas - remember the Nexus Scrap Caps and Versa Bags? Our learners have also had the opportunity to take part in some fun Green Innovation activities this week, please take a look at our Recent Events tab for pictures of Lego Ducks!
We never like saying goodbye to families, however if you know you will be leaving us at the end of this academic year we respectfully request that you complete a withdrawal form (found on the Parent Portal), to enable us to plan appropriately for next year. May I also take the opportunity to remind all parents that we finish at 12:00 midday on the last day of term, Friday, 16 June.
Have a great weekend.
Best wishes
Fiona Lewis
Head of Primary
In assembly we made links between Green Innovation, the Global Goals and our Care Movement.
There are many, many ways these are connected but we found close links with Global Goals 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14 & 15.
