Welcome to what will be a busy Term 2. I hope you all enjoyed the holiday - it was lovely to see the children rested and recharged and throwing themselves into their learning this week. I would like to also warmly welcome our new learners and families.
As a reminder to all our families, there are some key communication tools we use in school to share what is happening in our Nexus community. Please make sure you've connected to these...
Facebook Page (click here) - a space where we celebrate all that is happening in the Nexus community.
Parent Zone (click here) - a one-stop place to find all the key information you need about life at Nexus. For example, viewing the school calendar and finding out about our CCA, Music and Sport programmes. This is the place to get all the practical information you will need about school life.
SeeSaw App - we offer a ‘window into the classroom’ via the SeeSaw App. This is the regular ongoing communication method we will use to share news and home learning from your child's class. If you need some help to set up the app, please email our IT team.
And of course, our fortnightly Newsletters will also be full of exciting news. In addition to this front page that has our 'live' calendar displayed below, we also have a range of other sections to look out for. These sections can be accessed from the menu across the top of the screen (on large screens such as laptops and iPads) or the 'triple bar' icon on the top left (on small screens, e.g.: phones). Do take a look at the 'News for the Year Groups' section to find out what current units of inquiry the children are currently exploring.
At the end of last term, there were lots of learner-led taking action projects, including a photo competition, Maths challenges and activities advocating for equality for girls in education. We also launched our Bug Busting logo competition and received 80+ amazing entries. Later this term we will be announcing the chosen design. Our community also supported Krish's advocacy and fundraising for Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter (OSCAS). We have raised an amazing $1,250 so far. We are keen to encourage all learners to get involved in taking action. If your child has an idea for taking action, please ask them to share their thoughts with their teacher or reach out to Ms Sophie in Phase 3 and Mr Aaron in Phase 4.
Today, I am privileged to introduce this term's Primary School Online Music Recitals. Our budding musicians have embraced the opportunity to bring music into our community. With Covid-19 restrictions still in place we were unable to have live performances however, many learners continued to prepare music with the support of our Instrumental Tutors, setting themselves the goal to record a performance for you. With performances across the different phases of our school and music from classical to jazz; piano to electric guitar. It was great to be able to culminate these performances and bring to you the first of this year's music recitals. Thank you to all of our learners who participated, the instrumental tutors, music team and our marketing department that compiled and edited the final cut. Go to the 'Arts' section to watch the performances.
To those families taking part in Halloween, have a fabulous time! To our Christian families, I wish you a happy All Saints' Day! Wishing for the blessings of All Saints' Day to touch your life and make it wonderful!
With best regards,
Paul Beach
