Year 2 learners have explored a variety of orchestral instruments this term through a fun unit, 'Peter and the Wolf'. Many learners have expressed an interest in wanting to further their skills and to learn to play an instrument.
Therefore, we are pleased to announce the 'Beginner Violin Programme' which will run for 8 weeks in Term 4. Ms Jayne, who is a highly qualified violin instructor, will run the programme. We've had a huge interest and sign-ups, currently we've enrolled 30 learners with a handful on the waitlist.
We can't wait to hear our young violinists play in Term 4.
As we come to the end of Term 3, we are so pleased to announce that numbers of learners participating in Instrumental lessons at Nexus continues to grow, with over 180 learners currently enrolled and having lessons weekly.
At Nexus, we strive to bring you the very best tutors from across Singapore. Our instrumental tutors are selected for the outstanding musicianship and experience as educators within an International School setting. We are very lucky to have tutors that teach at a variety of International Schools as well as our own and we are seeing as a result more learners participating in music ensembles, more learners participating in music events and more learners taking their learning to the next level with either ABRSM or Trinity examinations. this is also feeding into our IGCSE and IB cohort for next year with numbers at the most they have ever been.
Our classroom teachers, Mr Chris, Ms Tash, Mr Fordham and Ms Lambert are continually supporting our learners to follow their passions as well as opening their eyes to a variety of different experiences by introducing new instruments and musical genres. This often ignites a fire within our learners and they soon begin to show an interess and want to start learning an instrument.
We are currently accepting enrolments for new learners for Term 4. All information regarding timetabling, costs and sign up can be found on our Parent Zone on the school website. If you have any questions also do not hesitate to contact us at music@nexus.edu.sg
As part of this week's Wellbeing Week our young musicians have serenaded parents, staff and learners on the way into school each morning. Our Lessons without Walls series allows learners across the school who learn an instrument inside or outside of school to rehearse in an informal setting with the support of one of our music teachers. It is also provides a lovely atmosphere to start our school day. This week we have seen 52 musicians participate from as young as Y1 through to Y13, in addition some have been only learning for a month or two whilst others shared an examination piece of IGCSE prepared piece of music.
This opportunity is open to all and we welcome new musicians at our next Lessons without Walls in Term 4. Please find a small selection of photos below.
We have had a rockin' time during lunch break this week. With Nexus Beats around the corner after the holiday our musicians have been busy rehearsing all term in our music studios daily.
As part of the preparation, we brought a rehearsal to the school cafeteria so they could experience playing together in a more open setting as well as testing out using the sound system. With the support of Mr Tee, Ms Tash, Mr Fordham and Mr Hiro the learners all rehearsed with confidence. It has been great that this year we have extended this opportunity to our Primary learners with bands from Years 5 and 6 participating. It was a great experience for them ahead of the live Nexus Beats event on Thursday, 8 April.
Over the holiday, our bands are invited into school for additional support to prepare for their final performance. Unfortunately, at this time tickets are only being allocated to performers. Each performer will be allowed 2 tickets only. This is due to CPE guidelines and our audience is being capped at 100. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. However, we are delighted that we will be able to live stream the event so please watch out for further details regarding this. We thank you for your support.
