Last Friday we joined our Hindu Community in celebrating Deepavali. It was wonderful to see so many staff and learners in stunning traditional Indian wear. The day started with two fantastic assemblies which included Bhangra and Dhol performances, Bollywood dancing and Bharatanatyam (traditional South Indian dance). The learners particularly enjoyed learning some dance steps at the end of the assemblies.
During the day each Primary class visited the Deepavali stalls where they tried some Indian food such as Dosas and Bhel Puri. Learners also participated in various Arts and Crafts activities. It was lovely to see so many of the learners being risktakers and trying new things during the day. Yet another wonderful day celebrating the Festival of Lights. Thank you to the parents and staff that helped organise and run the stalls this year.
Last week, the Year 4 learners ventured out on two day trips; one to Little India and the other to Images of Singapore on Sentosa Island. Both trips introduced the learners to the influence of migration on Singapore as part of our new unit exploring Singapore's rich history. Exploring wet markets, hawker centres and museums gave us all a great introductory experience to the unit.
Year 3 learners have been inquiring into 'How culture is reflected through the Arts'. This Unit of Inquiry has integrated across the curriculum in Music, Visual Arts, HPE, French, Chinese, BML English and Library skills lessons as well as our homeroom-based sessions. On Wednesday our learners shared their learning and understanding with parents and friends in our Mini Exhibition.
We were impressed with the enthusiasm, commitment and desire to learn that all the children have shown during this Unit. It was a wonderful showcase of learning. Thank you to our Year 3 learners and thank you to parents and friends who came to share in the children's learning journey.
