Our Year 2 learners recently visited the captivating Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve as part of their exploration into the unit of inquiry, "People’s actions impact living things and their environment."
Amidst the serene beauty of the wetlands, learners had the opportunity to witness firsthand the delicate balance between human actions and the natural world. They observed diverse species of birds and plants and learned about the importance of wetland conservation. Our young learners were inspired to become responsible stewards of the environment. Through this immersive experience, they gained valuable insights into how their actions can positively influence environments and habitats.
As they returned from their field trip, brimming with newfound knowledge and enthusiasm, our Year 2 learners are now better equipped to make informed choices and take meaningful actions to protect our precious planet for generations to come.
It was a pleasure to collabrate with the Chinese department and include music in the Lunar New Year Celebrations. Our community were welcomed to school on Thursday to the sounds of Chinese music presented on traditional and popular instruments by our Chinese learners; on Friday the Y4 learners showcased what they have been learning in class with Chinese Drumming.
During assemblies the Primary and Secondary Choir accompanied by the Nexus Community choir also serenaded everyone with 'Mo Li Hua'. This was a lovely occasion that brought our community together.
Last night our Auditorium was a hive of activity with 24 DJ's/bands/singers from Y5-13 taking to the stage to rock out and bring to the community Nexus Beats 2024!!! Nexus Beats is always a highlight in our school calendar at the Auditorium was full with everyone singing and dancing along to the music.
The event supported by Mr Kevin, Ms Serena, Ms Clare and Mr Alex is predominantly learner led. The majority of bands are initiated by our learners and hours of rehearsals are planned to be ready to take to the stage. Some groups are part of the Primary or Secondary Rock Band and this has been a great addition to our CCA's this year as those learners who perhaps don't have friends that are musical have formed new friendships and bands by making music together.
During the sound checks professional guitarist and performer Daniel Sid worked with each act providing feedback and support to encourage and help them with confidence and performance skills.
In addition Roo founder of Songwork was in attendance. Songwork International is a leading songwriting, music production and recording school based here in Singapore and across the globe. Roo has 30 years of experience across the music industry under his belt and he has worked with Pop Rock artists such as Arctic Monkeys, John Mayer, Radiohead and Limp Bizkit.
Roo was looking for 1 band that he felt has the X Factor and will be offering a free recording session in term 4.
Both Daniel and Roo will select 8-12 acts to perform at a very special gig at Blackbird Restaurant and Bar on Saturday 2 March 3-5pm. All members of the Nexus Community are welcome to attend.
