Phonics - Listening activity

Click on the video to the left and get those listening ears ready.

Remember our good listening rules at Nursery.

Can you close your eyes and listen carefully to the different sounds you can hear around your house?

Go outside in your garden and see what else you can hear.

Pencil control practise

Can you carefully follow the dotted lines. Remember to try and hold your pencil correctly.

Numberblocks

Each week we are going to focus on a different number and think about the different ways we can represent numbers. For example, you can represent numbers on your fingers, a dice, tally chart, ten frame and Numicon.

Why don't you watch episodes 'One' and 'Another one' of Numberblocks to learn all about the number 1.

Can you find one thing in your house?

Can you draw 'one'? You could draw dots, lines or use stickers to show this.

Can you represent one on your fingers? What do you have 'one' of on your body? (1 nose, 1 mouth etc)

The Three Little Pigs Counting

Can you count how many and ask an adult to help you record the number or you could draw the correct number of spots to represent how many.

The Three Little Pigs STEM activity

Can your child build a house for the little pigs?

Can they build a couple so they can compare which is the strongest? In Nursery we would have made several using the children's ideas e.g Duplo, Lego, paper, books, material etc. We would then have tested it using a hairdryer to see which was the strongest, for the wolf to blow down. You can talk about why some materials would be suitable for a house and why others are not e.g. paper would get wet and crumble.

Story song

In Nursery we love to sing our Three Little Pigs story song.

Can you join in with the words and actions at home?

Singing the story helps us to memorise, retain and retell the story.

Can you re tell the story and maybe act it out? Here is a video clip to help you make your own pig mask or you can use the attachment to print some out.
