September 26 - Oct 2 is New Zealand Chinese Language Week - a chance to celebrate the learning of Chinese in Aotearoa and perhaps give it a go yourself.

New Zealand Chinese Language Week (NZCLW) is a Kiwi-driven initiative designed to increase Chinese language learning in New Zealand.

Mandarin is the 'standard' dialect and most commonly spoken. Cantonese is also a well-known dialect. There are around 200 different dialects. The 10 main Chinese languages are:

  • Mandarin

  • Cantonese

  • Min

  • Wu

  • Jin

  • Yue

  • GanHakka

  • Xiang

  • Huizhou

  • Pinghu
