Message from Mrs Beecroft

Dear Grazebrook families

As another busy term comes to an end, the Grazebrook team would like to thank all our families for your continued support. Our Come Celebrate With Me events highlighted what a fantastic community we are lucky enough to be part of!

Ms Reid and I would like to extend a special thank you to those who have given up their time to help raise funds for the school. The families that make up our Parent Staff Association (Grazebrook PSA) worked tirelessly to organise and run our fantastic Winter Fair raising over £5500 for the school. We are very grateful to those of you who regularly give up your time in this way for our school community. A special mention to Catherine Hyotte and Dorian Fray, our departing co-chairs, for their hard work fundraising and providing us with amazing community events over the past two and half years. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you!

Thank you to all of our families who attended the recent parent consultation meetings. We hope that you found these useful and that you know how to help your child with their learning. These partnerships enable our children to achieve more and to raise their aspirations. If you have any further questions, please do make an appointment with your child's class teacher or phase leader in the new year.

Our children continue to do us incredibly proud. Visitors to our school consistently recognise the excellent attitudes to learning and the calm and orderly environment in which our children work. Their mature and respectful attitudes towards each other always impress those who meet them and this is due to the hard work of our families and staff. Thank you for continuing to promote the school’s values and ethos.

In the spring term we will continue to reach out to you and will be inviting you to attend additional sessions related to mental health, SEND, art, reading and Spanish. We hope that you are able to join us.

In the meantime we wish you a wonderful and restful break during the Christmas period and a very Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing all of you on Wednesday 4th January at 8.55am.

Festive Celebrations

Earlier this week, we made the most of the snow in our playgrounds. Year 1 especially enjoyed making some new icy friends together! We loved sharing our delicious Christmas lunch and enjoying the pantomime in our Christmas jumpers.

Learning With Our Families

We have been so impressed by the creative crafting of all our children and families at our Come Celebrate With Me Events this December. Thank you to those of you who were able to attend. To those who were not, we hope you enjoyed receiving a little Christmas gift from your child after their event.

Learning across the Curriculum

Year 5 had a fantastic interactive Viking day from Portals to the Past learning about Viking warriors, stories, runes and burials! Some of our Year 4s had an energy fuelled morning racing each other on static bikes as part of the Young Hackney tournament earlier this month. A selection of our eco-committee were able to meet the Mayor of Hackney alongside one of Hackney's new eco road gritters, 'The Great Gritsby' which they named in a competition earlier this year.

Nursery and Reception Admissions

If your child is currently in Nursery with a birthday between 01/09/2018 and 31/08/2019 you should apply for a Reception place by the 15th January 2023. Details of how to apply can be found here on Hackney Education's website. If you would like support with making your application, please contact the school office on 020 8802 4051 or email gboffice@newwavefederation.co.uk.

Due to the popularity of our Nursery, we have recruited an additional teacher and increased our pupil numbers. We have a small number of full time and part time places (with or without wraparound care) still available from January. Please contact the school office in January if you are interested in enrolling your child or would like advice about a future Nursery application.

Key Contacts

If you have any queries regarding you child's learning, the first point of contact is your child's class teacher. You can speak to them at the end of the day or contact our school office to arrange a phone call or face-to-face meeting with them. At times, you may wish to contact the member of staff in charge of your child's year group. At Grazebrook, these are:

Nursery and Reception: Ms Hasina Khan (Deputy Headteacher)

Year 1 and Year 2: Ms Niamh McLaughlin (Lead Teacher)

Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6: Mr Joshua Middleton (Assistant Headteacher)

SEND: Ms Hasina Khan (Deputy Headteacher)

All email queries including those for the attention of Mrs Beecroft or Mrs Reid should be sent to gboffice@newwavefederation.co.uk in the first instance with the addressee and/or topic in the subject line. These will be forwarded to the relevant member of staff.
