Summer 2 2026
Dear Grazebrook Families
A huge thank you to all our families who were able to join us at our KS1 and KS2 Sports Day and picnic at Finsbury Park this week. We are very proud of the children for collaborating to achieve their goals and demonstrating kindness towards each other as they took part in a range of running, throwing and jumping events. We were really impressed by the number of participants in the family races and thank you all for your enthusiasm and team spirit.
A reminder that Reception's Sports Day will take place in the dog free area in Clissold Park on Tuesday 23rd June from 9am with the Nursery Sports Day happening from the same time on Wednesday 24th June. Nursery pupils will also be using their event to fundraise for Children with Voices as part of our community kindness summer celebration by taking part in a sponsored Toddle Waddle.
As we head towards the end of the academic year, we are looking forward to our summer Kindness in the Community celebration which will take place across the day on Friday 3rd July and our PSA Summer Fair on Saturday 4th July from 12pm to 3pm. This is always a fantastic community event that creates lots of smiles and happy memories. If you are able and willing to give an hour of your time to help make the magic happen this year, please sign up using the QR code on the poster at the bottom of the bulletin or attend the planning meeting at 9am on Friday 19th June. The event is always a fantastic celebration of our school community and we are hugely appreciative of your support.
At the end of the term, you will receive your child's end of year report. This will no longer be printed. Instead it will be available on your MCAS (My Child At School) account. A letter with further information will be shared with you before the reports are published. Reports will provide you with a summary of your children's learning, a personal statement from their class teacher and your child's highlights as well as teacher assessments of effort and attainment. They will also contain all statutory data for the relevant year groups: Reception's End of Key Stage Teacher Assessments, Phonics Screening Check results for Year 1, the Multiplication Tables Check results for Year 4 and Year 6's SATs results.

In their Art and Design lessons, Year 6 have been inspired by the work of Yinka Ilori and Morag Myerscough.
First, they explored these artists use of bright colours and repetition, making visual notes to develop ideas for their own artwork. Then, they experimented to create an eye-catching design. Next, they copied the design and installed it somewhere in Grazebrook for others to enjoy. Finally, they captured their work in a photograph which are now on display in the KS2 corridor.
Here are a selection of their installations.
In their Computing lessons, Year 5 have been learning about vector drawings and using different digital shapes to create graphics.
In their Design and Technology lessons, Year 5 tested and compared different types of bread from around the world and learnt about seasonal ingredients. They conducted a taste test to see which ingredients would be suitable for their own bread. Once they had decided on their ingredients, Chef Ben taught the children how to make their own bread which they then tasted and evaluated.
Year 3 visited the Petrie Museum to begin their history unit on the Ancient Egyptians. They were absolutely amazed by the artefacts they discovered at the museum and thought that all the Grazebrook children should visit to learn from the objects on display. This is some of what the children found:
“I noticed a painted case for an Egyptian mummy, buried for the afterlife.”
“We saw objects like combs and jewellery made from bone from their daily lives.”
“I found hieroglyphic art which had 3D silhouettes!”
“Our group saw canopic jars next to golden objects so that pharaohs would be buried with important and expensive things in their tombs.”
Year 3 also wowed their families by sharing their new knowledge in their learning celebration assembly which included an excellent fact filled rendition of 'Walk Like An Egyptian'!
The eco councillors have been very busy supporting the school leaders with continuing to encourage everyone in the school to reduce and reuse as part of the school's Climate Action Plan. They conducted a light audit checking to see if all the bulbs across the school were LEDs. They also ran their after-school re-fill shop.
A shout out to all the Year 4, 5 and 6 children who took part in the Hackney School's Challenge just before half term. We were incredibly proud that the overall winner of the event running faster than the hundreds of other Hackney Primary School children who took part was our very own Macsen! We are hoping to see him in the 2036 Olympics!
A special mention to the Grazebrook Boys 9-Aside Football Team who also made us very proud in their recent matches. They made it all the way to the Hackney finals where they were the runners-up in a very tight and well-matched competition.
Our Year 4 Choir began our summer kindness project by visiting St Ann's where they performed for some of the residents. They received wonderful feedback and were asked if they would like to come again.
We hope that you will be able to join us for our art exhibitions and musical showcases on Friday 3rd July. Details of year group projects can be found here.
