Message from Mrs Beecroft

Dear Grazebrook Families

A huge thank you for the absolutely phenomenal attendance at our four Christmas Winter Sounds concerts over the last two weeks. The children performed brilliantly, showing confidence and enthusiasm. We were particularly impressed by those who read poems and told jokes to entertain their families. Well done to Mr Stevens and the class teachers who worked hard behind the scenes supporting the children to learn the songs and rehearse together.

We would also like to thank all the Grazebrook PSA and volunteers for putting on an incredible Winter Fair and to all of you who were able to attend and support the school. As a result of the PSA's very generous donation, we were all able to have a brilliant pantomime experience on the 6th of December with Years 1 to 6 watching Aladdin at Hackney Empire, and Nursery and Reception enjoying a performance of The Littlest Christmas Elf at Grazebrook. Please see below for a message from the PSA.

This has been a fantastic term at Grazebrook full of new learning for the children as well as a wide range of trips and events which have enriched our curriculum. The children and staff have worked incredibly hard and showcased all our Grazebrook values; I would like to take the opportunity to thank them all for their enthusiasm and energy. I would also like to thank you, our families, for your amazing support and positive feedback throughout the term.

The Grazebrook Team would like to wish you all a restful and enjoyable break with family and friends; we look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 8th January.

Thank you from the PSA!

Your PSA would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone for helping to make the Winter Fair a resounding success. We are extremely grateful for all the volunteers, creations, donations and enthusiasm we received in the run up to the Fair, and for your valuable support on the day. Seeing so many people enjoying themselves on Saturday was brilliant. We would also like to extend our thanks to the Grazebrook staff, who also help make the events a great success.

Calculations are still in progress but it looks like our collective effort raised in excess of £5K for the school, which will help them continue to provide more of the great things that make a difference for our children! Here are some photos of the day showing the variety of stalls and activities we were lucky to have. The PSA will take a short break but will be back in full swing in the New Year, so stay tuned.

In the meantime we would like to wish you all a very healthy and happy Christmas.

Thanks Meryl (Nana's words) + PSA team

Seasonal Greetings from Grazebrook

We are scientists!

Each week, in Mrs Cabey's science club, the children have been conducting scientific enquiries to build their knowledge of the world around them. Last week, the children created and then explained the science behind their own lava lamps. They used: a container, water, cooking oil, food colouring and an Alka-Seltzer. Why don't you have a go yourself over the holiday? Here are some instructions to help you.

You might also want to start thinking about your entry to this year's science fair, which will take place as part of our British Science Week celebration in mid March. The theme this year is 'time'.

Nursery & Reception Applications

If your child is currently aged 3 or 4 and born between 1st September 2019 and 31st August 2020, you will need to apply online through eAdmissions for a place in Reception to start September 2024. The deadline for applications is 15th January 2024. All families must complete their application by this date, even if your child is already a pupil in our Nursery. For more information, please visit: https://education.hackney.gov.uk/content/primary-before-you-apply?guidebook=188

If you know anyone who would like to book a tour of the school to help inform their decision of which schools to apply to, please ask them to contact the school office to book a place.

My Child At School (MCAS)

As you will be aware from our previous letter and texts, from January we will be using the My Child At School (MCAS) app for school payments, as well as for booking parent consultation meetings and to share communications from the school.

Once you have downloaded the app, you will need to turn on the notifications as this will be the main way you will receive the school messages and letters. We will write to you in January with further details of how to get the most from the app, but in the meantime, if you have any queries regarding communications or making payments, please speak to a member of our office team.

Key Contacts

If you have any queries regarding you child's learning, the first point of contact is your child's class teacher. You can speak to them at the end of the day or contact our school office to arrange a phone call or face-to-face meeting. At times, you may wish to contact the member of staff in charge of your child's year group. At Grazebrook, these are:

Nursery and Reception: Ms Kelly O'Callaghan (EYFS Leader)

Year 1, Year 2, Year 3: Ms Caireann Conlon or Ms Joanna Ichim (Assistant Headteachers)

Year 4, Year 5, Year 6: Ms Simone Bunbury (Assistant Headteacher)

SEND: Ms Caireann Conlon (Assistant Headteacher)

All email queries, including those for the attention of a class teacher or school leader, should be sent to gboffice@newwavefederation.co.uk in the first instance with the addressee and/or topic in the subject line. These will be forwarded to the relevant member of staff.
