Dear Grazebrook families
It has been a very busy and exciting half term and the Grazebrook team would like to thank all of our families for joining us at our events and fundraisers and for your continued support. Our new outdoor games and graphic novels bought with funds raised by PSA events have now arrived at the school and will be making their way to classrooms and playgrounds next half term. The funds being raised by our year group bake sales are going towards continuing to pay for or subsidise trips so that we can keep costs as low as possible. We are extremely grateful to all the families who donate goods and run these events.
This week we shared a letter with you to let you know that we will be taking part in the The Little Recyclers® school fundraising programme. By donating unwanted clothing to the school, you can help raise funds for the school and protect our environment at the same time. Between 3rd - 28th June, please donate good quality clean clothing (adult's, children's, baby’s) to the main office where you will find a clothing bin labelled The Little Recyclers School Fundraising Programme. Items to donate include pairs of shoes, bags, hats, scarves, belts, fashion accessories, swimwear, jewellery and lingerie. Thank you!
If you are a parent/carer of a child in Years 1 to 6, you will have seen from a letter shared earlier this week that after half term, the children will be completing their RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) unit of PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education). At Grazebrook, we do this through the Jigsaw scheme of work and a unit called ‘Changing Me’. This unit is designed to support children through transitions by teaching skills and offering a toolkit for managing change. If you would like more information about what the children will be learning, please join your child’s teacher and their phase leader for a short information session after the half term. The dates and times are listed below:
Year 1 and Year 2 - Tuesday 4th June at 3.45pm in 2B
Year 3 and Year 4 - Wednesday 5th June at 3.45pm in 4G
Year 5 and Year 6 - Thursday 6th June at 3.45pm in 6G
Another key highlight of Summer 2 is Grazebrook’s Sports Day and Picnic at the Park. For Years 1 to 6, this will take place at the Finsbury Park Athletics Track between 10.00am and 2.00pm on Friday 14th June 2024. House colours are the same as last year and are on display in classroom windows. For Nursery and Reception, Sports Day will take place at Clissold Park in the dog free area from 9am with Reception's Sports Day taking place on Tuesday 18th June and Nursery's on Wednesday 3rd July. Families are very welcome at these events to cheer on the children and join in our picnic and snacks. EYFS families, please look out for letters with further details after half term.
A reminder that we return to school on Monday 3rd of June. Until then, wishing you all a relaxing and safe week.

A message from Ms Mulder, "It's been so exciting learning about life cycles in Nursery! We watched as our caterpillars grew, made their chrysalises, went through their metamorphoses and finally emerged as butterflies which we set free to start a new life cycle! We have also been learning about the life cycle of a plant. We've been doing a lot of planting and caring for our plants in our Woodland Area. We each planted a bean and are very excited to see them starting to grow!"
A message from Ms O'Callaghan, "We have loved learning about our local community. Our focus has been on how we can help the community we live in. To help our community we wanted to raise money for a charity, so we decided to have a lemonade sale! The children used every opportunity to apply their learning to plan for the event. In writing, the children wrote instructions for what we needed to do to get ready for the lemonade sale. They also created signs to make sure everyone knew about the event. The lemonade the children made was delicious! Thank you to all our families for supporting us."
Year 5 went on an adventure to Woodberry Wetlands as part of their science learning about the lifecycles of different animal groups. They were able to explore the woodland and ponds to discover, identify and classify the animals they found there. They identified the similarities and differences in the life cycles of the animals they found as well as have lots of fun together!
We were also all very impressed and entertained by their recent Ancient Greece assembly where they showcased a wealth of historical knowledge. Ms Cavadino and Mr Zanier were blown away by the children's ability to consider which city state they would have preferred to have grown up in and why.
Mr Zanier has been so impressed by how focused and creative all the children have been with their geography home learning projects this half term. They have combined their geography knowledge with their artistic, design, literary and presentation skills brilliantly to produce some really high quality outcomes. The projects have been on display in classrooms and around the school and a small sample can be seen below. Thank you to all our very creative families for your help and support.
Last Saturday, a group of our Year 4, 5 and 6 children and staff joined together with other Hackney primary schools to take part in the Schools Challenge. The children showed great teamwork by training together before the race and supporting each other on the day to complete the mile run on the Hackney Marshes. Thank you to all the families who cheered us on and made the day extra special.
Key Stage 1 have been making the most of the sunshine when it has appeared this half term by taking their reading outside and enjoying some great books together. Thank you Year 1 families for joining us for our first Year 1 Family Friday.
