18th June 2024
Dear Grazebrook families
A huge thank you to all the Year 1 to 6 families who joined us on Friday at Finsbury Park for our Sports Day. Although the rain shortened the day, we had a fantastic morning where children showcased focus, resilience, kindness and determination while taking part in a range of track and field events. The children will complete the postponed relay races over the course of this week, after which all the points will be added up. We will announce the winning team to the children in our whole school assembly on Monday 24th June.
Today, it was the turn of the Reception children to have their Sports Day. At Clissold Park, they took part in an egg and spoon race, sack race, javelin throw, scooter race, space hopper race and sprints. A huge thank you to all the families who joined us and made it a very special morning for the children. The final Sports Day on the Grazebrook calendar will take place for Nursery children on the morning of Wednesday 3rd July at Clissold Park.
As we head towards the end of the academic year, we still have lots of exciting trips and events taking place. We are also looking forward to our Nursery and Year 6 graduations, our New to Reception Gruffalo Picnics, and Moving Up Day, where the children will spend time with their new teacher. There are two key community events: the Grazebrook PSA Summer Fair on Saturday 6th of July from 12–3pm and our Summer Project Showcase on Friday 12th July. On this day, the children will take part in a range of workshops, including dance, cheerleading, photography, drama, music and cooking. We will then invite families to join us at the end of the day to celebrate with us. Please look out for further details from Ms Conlon and Ms Bunbury.

Nursery saw the arrival of some very special visitors last week. Ten eggs were delivered at the start of the week and, by the end, they were replaced by ten chicks! The children (and adults) have been enjoying watching and looking after the chicks before they are collected and taken to a local farm later this week. A huge thank you to the families who made donations to support us in continuing to give the children these rich experiences in Nursery.
The year 1 children have been exploring ScratchJr in their computing lessons, discovering how they can choose backgrounds, move characters on-screen using commands, and join blocks of code to run programs. In art lessons, the children have been inspired by the work of visual artist Andrea Butler and have been sketching birds in preparation for creating 3-D models later in the term.
Year 2 are busy working on their self portraits for the summer project showcase. They have also been working hard in their music lessons, where they learned simple melodies on the ukulele. Neriah explained, "We have been learning how to hold the ukulele, strum the strings, and play the A minor chord."
Year 4 took part in the Sports and Games Legacy Festival at Britannia Leisure Centre. The children participated in a wide range of games and activities and came back to school with medals and a very large and shiny trophy, which is now on display in the front of the school.
Year 4 have also been excellent scientists. They loved investigating the impact of different drinks on the health of teeth. They used hard boiled eggs to identify which drinks damage teeth and learned how to look after teeth so that they could give advice to others on how to have healthy teeth. They even set up classroom displays so that visitors would be able to understand what they were investigating.
Year 6 used their final learning celebration assembly to showcase their science knowledge about evolution and adaptation, including the work of Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace. Thank you to the families who were able to join us. The children are now very busy working on their leaver's show for their graduation, which will be held on Friday 19th July. Year 6 parents and carers, please look out for further information from Ms Bunbury and the Year 6 teachers later this week.
