Friday 24th June 2022
There is no denying that the summer term is always very busy for everyone. There are so many exciting events planned for the weeks leading up to the summer holiday, of which many have taken place already. I have listed the upcoming events for your diary in the newsletter below and have shared these with you previously. We hope to see you at the events in the coming weeks. Thank you for your support with each of these.
It's very hard to believe that there are only four weeks of the school year left. The children have achieved so much this year and have so many fantastic memories to take into the new school year with them. As always, we are very proud of all of our children and their achievements. I hope that they share their learning with you at home and talk about their science topics, history learning and the art and music skills they have developed in the year.
I am sure that you have seen some new faces at the school over recent weeks. Many of you will have met Ms Graham, our new Deputy Headteacher and Neslihan Kaygusuz, our new receptionist. Both members of staff have felt very welcomed by you in their first weeks at Woodberry Down. Thank you for supporting them. We also welcome Luis Zuluaga, our new catering manager to the school next Monday. We can't wait to taste his amazing food!
As always, we are very grateful for the support you show the school and the community. Your recent generosity at the Kindness Project Showcase demonstrates your commitment to the school. We look forward to seeing you all at the Summer Fair on Friday 8th July.
What a fantastic day we had in Finsbury Park. The sun and smiles were out for the day as we took ourselves to Finsbury Park running track to run, throw, jump and skip our way to victory.
The children were informed of the winning house in their assembly this week but for those parents who have also been asking about the winners on the day, I can confirm:
Abney - 3811 Clissold - 4003
Finsbury - 4006 Springhill - 4160
A MASSIVE congratulations to Abney House for their win on the day and a huge well done to everyone for their participation in the sports day. Thank you to our parents and families for taking part in the event and for the encouragement and support.
This week we took 45 of our Year 5 and Year 6 children to meet the legendary Floella Benjamin at BFI, Southbank where she spoke about a new tv adaptation of her book 'Coming to England'. The children loved the event!
On BBC iPlayer you can find the film which the children saw during their visit. If you have an iPlayer account, you can find the show here.
Many of you will have had the opportunity by now to meet Miss Graham. Sophie is our new Deputy Headteacher. You will be able to see her at the school gate at the start or end of the school day.
Luis will start at Woodberry Down on Monday 27th June as the federation's new catering manager. He will oversee the kitchen, providing the children with tasty and wholesome lunches.
Neslihan is the school's new receptionist. She is thrilled to have been able to help so many of our families in her first few weeks at the school, providing helpful and relevant information to you.

SCHOOL UNIFORM
It will be at this point in the school year that you are looking to buy new uniform for the start of school in September. Please be reminded that:
shoes MUST be plain black school shoes;
trousers or skirts should be grey in colour;
jumpers should have the school logo on them;
no jewellery should be worn to school.
Wearing the logo allows us to feel a sense of pride and belonging. There is a great feeling of teamwork at the school and this is supported by the school's logo and uniform.
With this in mind, we ask that all parents ensure that their children are dressed in the full school uniform each and every day. School uniform can be ordered at yourschooluniform.com. We do have a small number of second hand jumpers that our families are more than welcome to have, please ask at the office.
We hope that you were able to join us for our recent Kindness Project Showcase on 10th June. The children showcased some of the fantastic artwork they have created over the last year as they have celebrated the theme of kindness and respect. A handful of photographs from the event can be seen below. Thank you for all the support you showed us on the day, helping to raise funds for the children to donate to their chosen charities.
