Here are the spools of filament material that I use. I only use PLA 1.75mm dia. Link here It's recommended that newbies stick with the more forgiving PLA material. ABS and Carbon fiber require ventilation.
Cura is the free slicing software. Although the printer comes with a slicing program the free cura is much better. Download Link Here
All 3D printers work of from files called "STL" files. They are text files of a triangulated mesh of your intended part. STL files are to either be downloaded or created using a 3d cad tool.

I own a commercial license of solidworks for 3d CAD design. However I'm in the process of switching over to the autodesk Fusion 360 Link Here . The reason is that fusion offers a free personal license. Which is perfect for the home 3d printer beginner CAD designer. The solidworks cost over 3k and I'm able to do everything I need in Fusion 360.
There are many printers out there. I'm suggesting this one because I know how to use it and will be easier for me to help answer your questions and get you going.
