Please be aware that current Student Data Privacy Laws are still in effect. As a reminder, please refrain from using apps that allow for generic logins, as they are not exempted under the Public Act and would still require a data privacy addendum. Any questions regarding student data privacy as well as requests for new apps should be directed to your building’s library media specialist. Please refer to the District App/Resource Inventory list of apps that have been approved for use by the district in compliance with student data privacy guidelines. Thank you.

Data Privacy Waiver

• State has issued a student data privacy waiver that allows Districts to bypass the process of obtaining individual contracts for technology that falls under the data privacy statute.

• Vendors must sign the states Student Data Privacy Pledge and once they do they will be listed on the state’s Hub

• This process will be in effect for the duration of the statewide school closures

Moving forward, the NPS Process for Approval of Online/Mobile Apps will be as follows:

• All requests for new resources should continue to be directed to Library Media Specialists (LMS)

• LMS will check for the resource on the District App/Resources Inventory List

• If it has not been approved by the District, the LMS will check for it on Connecticut.LearnPlatform.com

• If it is on the LearnPlatform, it can be used

• The LMS should still send in a request for the resource following our usual protocol

• This should be done because the agreement on the Hub is only for the duration of the closure

• Vendors can be encouraged to sign the Pledge that is on the Hub which opens access statewide

• If a resource is not listed on the District List or the LearnPlatform, it should not be used
