What is Clever?
Clever creates a secure connection between our PowerSchool data and participating applications we use. Clever automates the transfer of student information (Courses, Teachers, etc.) nightly to those applications to provided features like class rostering. Clever also offers single sign-on access for students and teachers via the Clever Portal. Clever's single sign-on (SSO) enables users to securely authenticate to participating applications without having to enter in a username and password each time. Users log into Clever just once with one set of credentials, or using a Clever Badge, and then click on the various app icons to be logged in automatically via their SSO.
Clever will be used to roster PreK-12 classes with participating applications (e.g. IXL, BrainPop, Lexia, etc.) Students in grades K-4 will use the Clever dashboard once logged in to access applications. Grades K and 1 will have the option to use Clever Badges or a traditional username and password to log into a Chromebook. Grades 5-12 will use Clever for class rostering
Students in grades PreK-1
Power on the. The camera will turn on
Hold your Clever Badge up allowing the camera to see the QR code.
Wait for the Green Checkmark.
That's it you are now logging into the Chromebook.
Students in grades 2-4
At the login screen click on "Enter Google Account Info" in the lower right corner
Enter in your username and password
That's it you are now logging into the Chromebook
Clever badges are QR Codes similar to a barcode. It is unique to each student and used to log into a Chromebook or computer with an enabled camera. These QR codes are generated by Clever each school year during the rollover of PowerSchool.
Log into the Clever Portal, and click the "Classes" tab next to your name

Click "Void Badge"
Click "Confirm" to complete the process
This happens when a student registers after the badges have been printed. Or PowerSchool has not synced with Clever yet. It could take up to 24hr for the student to populate depending on when the registration process was completed.
Accounts are created for staff and students when PowerSchool Sync's with Clever each night. The account that gets created mirrors your Google username and password.
Tip: It may take up to 24hrs for an account to be created depending on when the user was entered into PowerSchool
Option One
Students logged into thier Chromebook will see the blue Clever icon in thier taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Students can click it to relaunch the Clever Portal.
If you do not see it, this may require a restart of the device for changes to take effect.
Option Two
Click on the Google Chrome icon on the taskbar to open a Google browser window
Once open, click on the small folder labeled "Newtownps.org bookmarks" located on the upper left side under the forward & back arrows
Click on the "Clever" this will open the Clever Portal again
Single sign-on (SSO) is an authentication method that enables users to securely authenticate with multiple applications and websites by using just one set of credentials. In our environment our Google username and password will be used as the credentials.
Yes, as long as the device has an internet connection, Clever can be accessed from any web-enabled device by opening an internet browser (Google Chrome preferred) and going to https://clever.com/in/newtownps
